Summary | 0010302: Richer hint-buble on outline tool elements hovering
Description | The outline tool displays all the elements in the current document : text frames, image frames, lines, groups and others. For each element, it displays an icon showing the type (image, text, line, ...) and the name of the element. But more : when hovering with the mouse on a text frame's name, a hint bubble pops up and says "text frame". When hovering with the mouse on an image frame, a hint bubble pops up and says "text frame". This fact was allready displayed with an icon on the left of the name of the element. It doesnt bring any usefull knowledge. Proposition : when hovering over the name of an element, or over the iconlet on the left, the hint bubble should display - the begining of the text (for a text frame) - a thumb of the image (for an image frame) - a thumb of the line (for a line) ...

... if it does not make the outline tool slower... |
|
Right now, its not possible to know at a glance what element name fits with what element on the page. One has to click and look the selection dots appear on the page. If this is not the wanted frame, try another one, until found... Of course this doesnt happen when elements have been renamed to something semantic, but this is rarely the case. ale : having these thumbshot previewed straight at the opening of the outline window would provide the best usability. In your OS, be it windows or linux, every document window does this with light speed when opening a new document window. In case it would be too long for scribus however, my initial request proposes to do this thumbshot preview in the hint bubble that appears on hovering the element : thus there is only ONE preview to compute and display. I'm sure that wouldnt be too much. In case QT bubbles (or whatever technical constraint) prevents this to be done in the hint bubble, it would be possible to have a special pane at the begining of the outline window, that pane would display the last hovered element thumbshot. |

well, let's take that even further: why do you want to hover the element to know what is in there? it will be tedious if you have hundreds of elements... shouldn't we then optionally show the content (beginning of the text or name of the image) instead of the name of the frame? one could right clik on the tree and switch between the two views. |
