Summary0010511: Spellchecker not working
DescriptionSpellchecker dialogue fails to show any text in the Spellchecker dialogue on sample text, imported text. Clicking on the Ignore, Ignore All, Change and Change All buttons sometimes brings the dialogue to life indicating text such as --Left as a misspelt word only to fail at the first comma or period.
Steps To ReproduceUsing Scribus 1.4.0, aspell 0.6.7-20110707-1, aspell-en 7.1-0-1 on Linux machine see below.

Procedure 1.
The Spellchecker does not work at all when sample English is inserted
into a text frame.

eg a) Insert -> Insert Text frame
         b) Insert -> Insert Sample Text select English
     c) Mispell a word
         d) Select text frame
         e) Item -> Spellchecker
         f) Dialogue with "Not in dictionary" and both "Replacement" and
alternatives box are empty
         g) Click "Ignore"
         h) Repeat of f - g until period is reached ie "3 May." when
dialogue with "Spellchecking complete." appears

Procedure 2.
Doesn't report any errors at all with any entered text or imported
text file.

eg.
       a) Insert -> Insert Text Frame
       b) Enter the following text "Let it rain it's goo for the grass."
       c Select text frame
       d) Item -> Spellchecker
       e) Dialogue with "Not in dictionary" and both "Replacement" and
'Alternatives' boxes are empty
       f) Click "Ignore"
       g) Repeat of e - f until Spellchecker hits the period or a comma
when a dialogue with "Spellchecking complete"

Procedure 3.
A similar process occurs with any text although strangely not with
Lorem ipsum. Here the "Not in dictionary" box has an entry, the
"Replacement" box offers a best guess and the alteratives box offers
other alteratives.

Although again as with 1. and 2. above the spellchecker always ends
it's spellchecking on a comma or a period.
Additional InformationThe bug is repeatable on different 'flavours' of Linux and at least one other user has reported that he/she can also repeat the above procedure with the same buggy effect.

i can confirm that there is something weird with the spelling checker!

it seems to me that for each correct word an empty field is shown which you can skip by hitting cancel.

try to type "this is a trest" ("trest", not "test") and run the spelling checker: you will have to hit three times on "cancel" before being told that "trest" is wrong...

Today there was an upgrade of the dictionaries-common package (1.12.2 - 1.12.3) so I tried ale's test:

After entering 'This is a trest' in a text frame.

1. Select Item > Spellchecker (or F7)
2. All text boxes empty
3. click Change button
4. Not in dictionary = trest and Replacement = tr est (note the space)
5. Select 'test' from Alternatives and click Change button
6. Spellchecking complete dialogue
7. Close dialogue
8. Text frame contains only 'is test'

This suggests to me that the spellchecker plugin is passing incorrect arguments to aspell or is using an incorrect API.
