Summary | 0010527: Forcing line break on justified text causes end of line gap.
Description | In Indesign when using justified text and forcing a linebreak (to get rid of hyphenated text for instance) - the line is automatically adjusted to fill the space left. Scribus does not seem to do this - which means you either have akward hyphenations or strange unjustified lines in justified text.

No... Scribus is formatting such line depending on last character before break. If this character is space, then Scribus justify that line like it is last line in paragraph. In other case Scribus justify such line. In your example you must place linebreak after space (just before word "dispense"). |

Ah - thanks cezaryece - makes sense and works! Let's close this one. |

basically, if the hyphenation is not correct, fix it! i don't think that a line break is a good idea to reflow your text... theoretically you should be able to add a soft hyphen before the word you don't want to be hyphenated and it should not hyphenate (there is currently a bug here, but cezary already provided a patch!) you can also suggest new hyphenation points by inserting soft hyphens in the word. back to the scribus side: the behavior described by cezary is quite disturbing to me... when it sees a linebreak, scribus should justify or not the paragraph. i don't think that a blank space at the end of the line should make a difference. which behavior is retained depends on what linebreaks are good for. personally -- even if i'm used to see other programs to force the justification -- i'd prefer to see scribus treat it just like the end of a paragraph. imo, the line breaks should only be there to avoid the paragraph spacing (indending, space above/below, or drop caps). |

I don't think forcing a line break to reflow text is problematic at all. I work full-time as a magazine designer and have been doing it for a long time. Often it's the only solution - if you don't want to end up with excessive hyphens, which, I feel, is unsightly. I would just say perhaps that scribus should see if the line ends with a space, and if so, remove it. But that's just because I'm used to Indesign - quite happy to adjust to the current setup. |

it seems there is no issue there |
