Summary0010773: wrong french translation of "Baseline grid"
Descriptionin french, "Align to the Baseline grid" is translated as "Aligner sur la grille typographique", but it should imo be "Aligner sur la grille de ligne de base"

new patch based on louis suggestion.

I think that "Ligne de base" is used in the other layout software. But we don't have to follow that if we want. "grille d'interlignage" might be easier to understand for beginners but is less precise.

dimitri is also for "ligne de base"...

i don't think that matching what other software does should be a criterium as long as the term is well understandable!

but both cédric and dimitri think that "ligne de base" is more of a "pro" term... so i think that we should use it!

This raises actually a pretty interesting issue that begins with the original English version, on which all other languages have based their translations on.

The baseline is just that, a line. Right?

What we are talking about here is indeed the grid of the *spacing* of line of type, from one baseline to the other.

The value we put in the field is the spacing value between each baseline expressed in points or in percentage of the typesize. We don’t put a baseline value there.

Both "baseline" and "linespace" are "pro" terms, just like their corresponding words in French, ligne de base and interligne or interlignage. Precise vocabulary from the trade.

I am not sure if it makes much sense in English to have a "baseline grid" whereas a linespacing grid might just be what we are really talking about. However, considering my knowledge of English, I have cannot argue a lot!

In French, I would rather suggest we use the "linespacing grid" since in my view it's clearly what we are talking about.

On the plus side, as Pygmee suggests, it may be more understandable at once by just about any user. And more understandable means more usable. So, I would stick to "grille d’interlignage" and ask that maybe the English expression be reconsidered.

if we "create" a new term, shouldn't we stick to its simplest form? "grille d'interligne"?

According to the Grand dictionnaire terminologique, "interligne" refers to the physical metal strip that was used to put space between lines of type.
http://www.gdt.oqlf.gouv.qc.ca/ficheOqlf.aspx?Id_Fiche=8432031

Interlignage refers to the spacing value between the lines
http://www.gdt.oqlf.gouv.qc.ca/ficheOqlf.aspx?Id_Fiche=8382500

Le Grand Robert makes the same distinction when applied to the printing field.

We might find other sources that confirm that, or not.
"Interlignage" is used in most of the applications dealing with text
