Summary | 0011105: PDF/X-1a output export preset does not automatically disable color profiles, and thus can output non-compliant PDFs
Description | When you have previously exported a PDF/X-3 file or other PDF that uses color profiles, and then you try to export a PDF/X-1a file, Scribus will not convert images in the document to CMYK, and it will embed profiles for all of them, even images that are already CMYK. When you go to the "Color" tab in the export window, the "Use Color Profile" checkbox is checked, but greyed-out, so you cannot un-check it. When you export the file, thinking it is compliant because all the unlawful options seem to be disabled, the resulting output file will be non-compliant with the PDF/X-1a standard, because of the color profiles and RGB images if you have them in your document. The PDF/X-1a standard only allows CMYK images, and no color profiles are allowed in the file. I found that it is possible to create a compliant file by putting the output preset compatibility drop-down on "PDF 1.5 Acrobat 6", and then clicking the "Color" tab. You can then un-check the "Use Color Profile" checkbox, go back to the "General" tab, and then put the output Compatibility back on PDF/X-1a and click "Save" to export. Often, the "Use Color Profile" checkbox will be greyed-out when you are on the "PDF 1.5 Acrobat 6" compatibility preset, and you must first go to "PDF/X-3" and then back to "PDF 1.5 Acrobat 6" before the "Use Color Profile" checkbox becomes active and able to be toggled again. When you have managed to get the "Use Color Profile" box unchecked, Scribus will convert all the images to CMYK and will not embed the profiles, and the file will be compliant with the PDF/X-1a standard. The preflight checker in Adobe Acrobat Pro X verifies this. When selecting the PDF/X-1a export compatibility preset, the "Use Color Profile" checkbox should be automatically un-checked, regardless of the previous state, to ensure that a standards-compliant file will be exported.
Steps To Reproduce | 1. Make a new document 2. Enable color management 3. Insert an image (RGB or CMYK - it doesn't matter) 4. Open the PDF Export Window 5. Put Compatibility selector on PDF/X-3 6. Click "Save" 7. Open the PDF Export Window 8. Put Compatibility selector on PDF/X-1a 9. Click "Save"
