Summary0013158: deadkey keyboard input flow issue (2-key character input)
DescriptionDead-key requiring character inputs as û or ï have been fixed for Ubuntu.
That's great but there are some lighter issues about these.

=====
1) they arrive later than other keys

When typing without waiting after each keystrike, the accenctuated glyph is sometime inserted *after* other glyphs.

Example : when i type "têtues", scribus records "ttuêes".

This happens with linked text frame when scribus is slow (feels a bit sluggish) to manage user inputs.

It's as if the deadkey management was asynchronous and took too long.

====
2) Sometime, on the contrary, the dead key accenctuated character arrive earlier than other characters in the keystrike flow !

For example i type 'forêt' and 'fêort is displayed.

Jluc, I can't reproduce most of these. Can you?
10.10.5 1.5.2svn r21215

Yes this can happen allmost allways.

To reproduce, it helps having a long set of linked text frames (say 10) because then, display update is slower and keyboard management is overwhelmed and shows this issue more easily.

Its a bit as if keyboard management were asynchronous, and since deadkey is a different code part, it could sometime lead to result too early or too late compared to other keys.

I dont reproduce anymore.
Maybe it has been fixed in some library or so...

maybe fixed by 'boxes' ?
marking as fixed in 1.5.2svn and removed the 1.5.4 target

I reopen because this still happens, with r21106 (preboxes), editing an 9 pages document where each page contains a linked text frame (9000 characters alltogether).

It could be very much that this issue will be fixed when the linked text frame sluggishness will be fixed.

Then do not reopen. Just tested current build in an Ubuntu 16.04 VM and dead key works.

No fix has been provided for this issue since r21106, so i doubt it's fixed.
Issue is not that dead key dont work, its that it doesnt work well in some cases.

Issue is : As described deadkeys sometimes arrive too early or too late.

Situation is :

I got the issue when typing in a set of linked text frame. On my computer, a set of 9 linked text frame with a 9000 character text is enough to trigger the issue sometime. Scribus screen update becomes slow and i type faster than screen update.

Have you tried in such a situation, when you type much faster than screen is updated because update has become very slow due to linked text frames ?

If you are lucky to have a very powerfull computer, it could be that it requires more linked text frame and a longer text to reproduce : maybe try with 50 or 100...

Yes, with a 20 pages doc.

Ok well i'll "close" this report, but will try to not mark it as "fixed".

You know now that there is some sort of issue around deadkey management. It could be very much that this issue is outside of scribus code scope, but it could happen also, at some time in future, that some scribus code touches deadkey management and its good to know that there is such an issue here.

tried with 1.5.2 on os x.
i can get the rendering to be behind my typing, but the ^ are shown at the right place.
