Summary0001839: Does not print Landscape. Ever.
DescriptionScribus just spits out a black page when I set it to print to landscape, though it will print a landscape page as protrait and cut off the edges.
Steps To ReproduceCreate a landscape 8x11 page. Click print from the menu. Click "options...". Under orientaion select "Landscape". Click ok, and print.

Of course if you have a landscape page and print it without changing any options it prints it portrait (cutting off the edges). This is silly.
Additional InformationI have a hpdeskjet820c am using the Foomatic/pnm2ppa driver

Are you using CUPS, and does Scribus have CUPS support enabled?

You may need to set the 'Orientation' option in the printer options ("Options..." button beside the printer selection pulldown) to "Landscape". Scribus should probably set this, by default, to the same orientation as the current document, and set the paper size too.

If you continue to have problems, please upgrade to 1.2.1 or 1.2.2cvs and let me know if the problem persists.

OK, having now read your question *properly*, it seems you are definitely telling Scribus to print in landscape, and it sounds like you must have CUPS support enabled.

Given this, it's mighty strange that you get a blank page when printing landscape but it prints OK in portrait. Is there anything interesting in the CUPS error log?

It is probably wise to upgrade to 1.2.1 or 1.2.2cvs as noted earlier, and see if the problem persists.

confirm the problem - Scribus 1.2.3 on SUSE 10.0 eval, print into file or HPLJ4200 postscript. Landscape print (A4) is printed into portrait - the page is cutted.

Additional (my problem?: compilation from sources and rpms from opensuse): In print window Scribus 1.2.2.1 has button options (but has the same problem with printing landscape page), version 1.2.3 and 1.3.1 are without this button.

Prints perfectly here. Select landscape in the options tab which shows the cups options.

I'd like to add my 2 cents. I cannot print a landscape document. I have managed, once or twice, to get it to print, but the image is shifted on the page, or subsequent print requests revert to portrait.

I'm running FC4 and have had this problem with Scribus 1.2.3, and now 1.3.1. I originally had installed both versions of Scribus via rpm, but they did not have Cups support built in, so I am now running 1.3.1 built from source, with Cups support built in (I have the 2nd 'C' in the about Scribus window...).

My printer is an HP Deskjet 952C.

Please help! A desktop publishing program that can't orient the paper properly is of no use, no matter how nice the program is otherwise! (<smiley>)

I would be happy to help troubleshoot this issue, just tell me how.

where did you get the rpms from ? The ones from www.scribus.net most defintely have CUPS support built in. I built them :)

Do you have KDE installed ? If so, can you print landscape from that ? If you do, try: 'kprinter' as alternative command in the Scribus print dialog.

Works fine here.. HPLJ1300N via CUPS. Landscape doc, landscape in options in print and there it is.. landscape on paper.

I got the rpm for 1.3.1 here:
http://ftp.belnet.be/packages/dries.ulyssis.org/fedora/fc4/i386/RPMS.dries/scribus-1.3.1-0.2.fc4.rf.i386.rpm
(google search: 'scribus rpm fc4')

I should clarify - I don't get black pages as the OP describes. I am simply unable to get a Landscape document to print properly. It nearly always comes out in portrait, with the right side cut off.

I don't have KDE installed.

...and to cbradney: I too have selected landscape in a number of combinations (letter, custom) in both the print 'options' window and in the 'Document Information' window, all to no avail.

The rpms from:
http://ftp.belnet.be/packages/dries.ulyssis.org/fedora/fc4/i386/
are missing some Build-Requires in the spec file and add in-correct ones as well.

Please try: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/scribus/scribus-1.2.3-1.fc4.i386.rpm?download

This is the stable 1.2.3 version, but has the correct dependencies. I will mail dries about the rpm.

Sorry - are you asking me to uninstall the 1.3.1 Scribus I built from source and replace it with the 1.2.3 rpm? Or are you just steering folks away from a not-quite-ripe rpm?

Please advise.

Thanks.

You can easily install the rpm along side the source built install provided you did not install into /usr/bin

I have mailed the dries maintainer a note with a correct spec file too.

Printed a custom sized, landscape doc to cards in the card feeder today. Landscape works.

Sorry for the slow response - work, kids, etc...

In the meantime, I have:

- uninstalled 1.3.1 that was installed via source. It turns out that even with an rpm installed 1.2.3, 1.3.1 was still coming up, so I just took the 1.3.1 version out with 'make uninstall'.
- I downloaded the specific rpm plinnell suggested and installed it.
- I opened a new document: letter sized, landscape.
- I sent it to print and it came out in portrait, with an extra blank page.

I just did a quick test with OpenOffice, and landscape works fine from there. FWIW, the build info for Scribus (from 'about Scribus') reads:
'Build-ID: 12 September 2005 C-C-T'

I'm more than willing to accept that I have a bungled config somewhere, but since Scribus is the only application that is complaining, I'm not sure where else to look.

I'd be happy to provide more info if necessary.

thanks!

-dave.
