It sounds like the GetText filters aren't being loaded/found. How did you install Scribus? If you run it from a terminal (xterm, gnome-terminal, or so on) does it produce any error messages?

Is there any chance we can get a backtrace from gdb? Here are some instructions for Inkscape that apply equally well to Scribus:

Actually, I just noticed your OS set to "knoppix". Is this about the LiveCD?

It's Knoppix on hard-drive, so it's like Debian.
Installation from apt-get (from Alex - tagancha) - and I dit it today (it fixed the bug: http://bugs.scribus.net/view.php?id=2829) - I mean, before that was not a problem.
From a terminal:

Plantage de Scribus
-------------
Plantage de Scribus à cause du signal # 11
Calling Emergency Save

It seems to be actually a problem of installation of GetText filters: shall I report to Alex?

I confirm it on my latest build from 20051128 source. I assigned it to myself at least until I check the packaging.

I've not found the exact culprit, yet, but it seems that 20051129 build that I'm uploading to the repositories (unstable in few minutes, testing, stable, hoary, breezy after a rebuild) doesn't have that problem. So, install it and enjoy your work.

Whatever changes were made to cvs, in the plugin area fixed this. There are several files that were added and some modified, so it was a scribus bug. It's gone now, packages are in the repositories, so I'm closing it.
