Yes. since reporting I've reinstalled all of SUSE10.0, reinstalled CUPS, etc. It appears to be a ghostscript(8.15rc1)[version that came with SUSE10.0] problem. I have downloaded the newer version from ghostscript since it says they fixed a pstops problem, but I have not been able to compile it yet. No sure what changes SUSE has made to install, I know the SUSE version is not in /usr/local/bin, Looks like it needs to go in /usr/bin but what other changes there are I have not figured out.

Have not tryed later version of Scribus, was waiting for stable release.

Let me know if I need to do something or test something?

Thanks

Are you able to print from other KDE/QT applications? What happens, if you put "kprinter" as alternative printer command in the Scribus print dialog?

Just tried the following:
from GIMP with cmd lpr -Pstyluscx6600 postscript level2 prints OK
lp -s -dstyluscx6600 -oraw says completed, no output
from Scribus lpr -Pstyluscx6600 postscript level 2, aborts file tmp.ps
lpr -Pstyluscx6600 postscript level 3. prints in portrait even
               though the document is landscape.
from OpenOffice prints fine to styluscx6600
from kde applications it fails if print to styluscx6600 with CUPS print system but prints if I select lpr/lprng print system (lprng is not installed on system).
This is true for kate, konqueror. kmymoney aborts thru CUPS, no option for command.

Also note I updated Scribus to version 1.3.2 to see if that would fix it. No difference thats why I suspect ghostscript. I'm still looking into the unique things I need to specify when compling ghostscript.for SUSE10.0, There is mention of a fix in rc2 for a postscript problem.

Hope this helps.

Ignnoring landscape is a known bug, see 1393. As for printing with Cups from Scribus: Although I've tried, I cannot reproduce it here on Kubuntu, but judging from what you've written, it seems to be neither a problem with cups nor with ghostscript, but with printing from your kde/qt applications through cups.

Peter, you are a Suse and Ghostscript expert, what do you say? Can it be related to Scribus?

Just a comment: This all worked on SUSE 9.1. It fails with KDE 3.4.3 and KDE 3.5.1 under SUSE 10.0. I notice that KDE 3.5.2 is now available that may add to my confusion if I install it. I looked at kprinter and it see the printer OK, Calls out the correct printer, USB connection and correct photo image print system. I tried printing printertest.ps direct from kprinter and it aborted.
Print manager also see the printer correctly, all configuration parameters look correct.

Is there a kde or qt config file I should look at?

Please file this bug in Novell's bug tracker and note the bug number here. I strongly suspect it is a driver issue.

You need to start with the distros, as they all customize CUPS and Ghostscript somewhat differently. I will follow the bug with Novell/Suse too.

As per your suggestion I reported his to the SUSE bug system SUSE number
(https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=165446) bug number 165446.

Again thanks for all your help and let me know if there is anything else I can do.

Novell/Suse identified your issue as a broken third-party driver problem. Just for the record: "The Epson Avasys "pips" driver is known to be not in compliance to CUPS: For example the driver doesn't care about the CUPS backend but it
writes its output directly to /dev/usb/lp0 regardless which printer
there is connected to"

I'm closing this as a non-Scribus issue, however, please feel free to reopen it, should you discover any reference to Scribus
