Summary0003420: Scribus is unable to load GhostScript
DescriptionWhen I first ran Scribus, I got the message "The following programs are missing: Ghostscript <etc>". Ghostscript is installed.

So, I go into Edit>Prefs>External tools and switch name of the gs executable to "D:/Program Files/gs/gs8.53/bin/gswin32.exe" which is where ghostscript is.

Now when I load Scribus, I get the splash screen as far as "Initializing Story Editor", when it stops and a window appears. I have attached this as "scribus1.gif". As scribus has stoped loading, I close the ghostscript window, when another, similar ghostscript window appears, this time with an error in it. This is "Scribus2.gif" When I close this window, an identical one to "scribus2.gif" opens up. Once this 3rd window has been closed, scribus loads, but still displays "The following programs are missing: Ghostscript <etc>".

Bit anoying as I therefore have no gs features, but a darned good port so far!
Steps To ReproduceInstall ghostscript in D:\Program Files\gs\gs8.53\
Install scribus in D:\Program Files\Scribus 1.3.2\
Run scribus and change the ghostscript path in Edit>Prefs>Settings>External Tools
to "D:/Program Files/gs/gs8.53/bin/gswin32.exe" sans quotes.
Re-Run scribus.
Watch it break.
Fix it.
Be happy! It works! :)
Additional InformationGhostscript is installed in "D:\Program Files\gs\gs8.53\bin\gswin32.exe"
Scribus in "D:\Program Files\Scribus 1.3.2\Scribus.exe"

Yes, both on the D drive (NOT the standard C drive where windows is).

Also both paths has a space in their name.

Ghostscript 8.53 is the ONLY version on the system.

You must use gswin32c.exe and *not* gswin32.exe

That fixed it. Thanks.

Any chance of a note in the documentaion to this effect?

Otherwise new users (like me), even those who also use scribus on linux (like me) may choose the wrong one.

I do feel a bit silly though.

Thanks for the prompt reply.

you're right, we must add a note in the documentation + a tooltip on the gs entryfield

Docs have added note in 2 different places. String change in the tooltip will need to wait for 1.3.4cvs as we are in string freeze.
