Summary0004012: Keyboard shortcuts
DescriptionIn the MAC world, the uber-important use of keyboard shortcuts and quickeys is an integral feature in the use of any layout, design or text editing aplications. Workflow ease and speed is ultra-important. The ability to override or edit the key mappings is crucial. Once in the LINUX realm, those key strokes change, but are equally important. I really would love to know how to import, modify or override the keyboard shortcuts (currently listed in Scribus Preferences) to allow for the use of the OS X native shortcuts, or even to simulate the Adobe built-ins. Thank you!
Steps To ReproduceCommand D for desktop, or any of the standard OS X key strokes.

Change them in preferences, then export the file to save it for safe keeping.

The keyboard shortcuts can, indeed, be tweaked within Preferences, saved and exported if desired. The shortcuts are rendered useless as soon as a dialog box is introduced. Command-O, as an example, opens an Open dialog box. Great. Typically from here, one would Command-D to drop to the Desktop or Command-Arrow up/down to navigate directories. Even the Command. does not cancel. The only keystroke that is recognized is the "esc" - I am thinking this was one of the usability features that may have been overlooked in the MAC OSX build. These are seemingly small things that power users will complain about frequently. And also it is one reason one might jump back to the Adobe line. I'd rather fix the problem than do that! thank you for any input - and thank you "cbradney" for hitting on this the last time.

So what you are saying is the Mac OSX interface is overriding the Scribus ones?

cbradney - no, the main problem arises when any dialog box is opened - no shortcuts work at all. Escape, Tab & Enter/Return are the only key strokes recognized other than text entry in the text field. Strange - although, I would wager that there is a linux keymap associated with each open dialog box that renders any MAC shortcut keystroke unrecognizable. I say this because the dialog box gui is very red-hat-esque in nature, so I can only guess there is a linux code applied somewhere. Can that be tweaked? Thakn you.

While that dialog is modified to show some extra controls, it is part of Qt.. What version of Qt do you have installed?

Now that I finally understand what you mean, the dialog we use is basically a Qt dialog. Perhaps Qt4 has an improved one there, theres not much we can do for now with Qt3. We hope to move to Qt4 with Scribus 1.3.5.

I will review this issue after the move to Qt4.

Currently the OSX build has several usability issues with the keystrokes just one of them.

My guess is that Qt does not bother to emulate these keystrokes and Scribus also just
defines the standard Linux/Unix ones. It should be no problem to fix that.

Thanks for your input!
