Summary0005191: Make it possible to split and join frame with their content
DescriptionI can't find a good way to split or join my linked frames.

If I was able to split frames I could:
* First prepare all the text
* import it in a single linked complex of frames
* and then split them according to paragraphs or articles
(I would not know where to split before I see the actually imported text--and the possibly later imported images--so this would be really useful)

To join frames is needed for similar reasons--I may change my mind about the splitting, or falsly split where i should not have, then I need to be able to correct it :-)

I tried to join a frame at the beginning of a linked complex, but it won't let me (says I am trying to link to a filled frame or a frame to itself). This is not nice, because I then will have to unlink them all and link them anew with my new frame to make this work, or I would have to rearrange all the frames (move the first where the new one is supposed to be, the second where the first now are etc.) and this makes a lot of work just for one new frame at the beginning.
Steps To Reproduce1. Have a text file
2. Import it to a complex of several linked frames
3. If you now want to split your text in several parts linked together, but not as one unity, perhaps three, four--or just two you have no easy way of doing so

Or:

1. To a complex of filled text frames add one at the beginning
2. Try to join in the new one with the existing ones, it won't work
(It says I am trying to link to a filled frame or a frame to itself)
Additional InformationThe only way I have found (in Scribus 1.3.3.7) is to copy from the story editor and then paste it in a new frame. But this takes time, especially since my
document is big :-/

Just copying a frame copies this frame and the text in that frame.
marking multiple frames and copying also copies those frames with their
content (but unlinked!!). This only solves part of the problem, because I
then have to delete the original content to prevent it from occuring twice.
Just removing a frame moves the content to the next frame. And linking them again wont't work either ...

This may also be set up as a workaround for big documents (for 1.3.3.x that is, because the slowness of many linked frames won't be fixed before 1.3.4), linked frames are faster with fewer frames linked in one complex, so many diveded frame complexes would ease the pain :-)

For now I implemented linking single filled frames to a chain
and unlinking a frame only before (1.3.4cvs). Unlinking splits
the content between the frames (as it used to be before, I guess).

I might add "link chain to chain" and "unlink rest of chain" later.

"Unlinking splits the content between the frames (as it used to be before, I guess)."

No, it leaves the first part of the chained frame complex intact, but the second part (those after the break) are then left without any content at all. Please fix this, if you did not already :-)

Confirmed: Unlinking two frames in a chain splits the content correctly. Works nicely :)

cbradney: Nice:-)
(I suppose you mean 1.3.4, I tested it in 1.3.3.7 and there it seems to be as mentioned above). Any change this will be backported to 1.3.3* ?

This will not be backported, not even backportable.
