Summary0005207: Two status bars, zoom commands - UI cleanup
Description1. Why does Scribus have two status bars? The information they display would fit onto one status bar. Consolidating the status bars would free up screen real estate and simplify the UI.
2. Also, the zoom button could be deleted from the Tools toolbar. It is redundant given the zoom controls on the status bar.
3. All zoom commands should be in one place, not scattered around the status bars, toolbars, and menus. I would suggest adding adding zoom to fit, return to previous zoom, and thumbnail buttons to the status bar.
4. Adding these buttons to the status bar would allow the deletion of these commands from the [already too long] View menu. So as not to bias against keyboard users, all of these commands should have keyboard shortcuts (which would be revealed in tooltips when users hover over the status bar buttons.)

1) One is for the docs (especially important when you dont have the docs maximised), and the other for the application, although one could be removed in Scribus 1.3.5, not before.
2) this is for the zoom mode selector, it wont be going away

1. Hmm, well the application status bar seems to serve no useful application-wide purpose as far as I can tell. The coordinates readout it gives only works when the mouse pointer is over a child window and pertains to that child window. Therefore, seems like the readout would be more logically located in the child window.
2. If the zoom button is to be retained, it should be put in a more logical place--rather than sandwiched between the rotate and edit text frame commands. (There should be a separation between commands that view and those that do, e.g. why Save is not on the View menu.) Moving the zoom button either to the status bar, or to the beginning of the toolbar (next to the select item command) or its end (next to the eyedropper command) would make more sense.

It also might be a good idea to:
5. move the measurements button down next to the measurement unit drop-down in the status bar (again, grouping related controls--choosing what units I measure in should be next to actually measuring.)
6. move the copy item properties button to the cut/copy/paste toolbar. Changing its icon might also be advisable--a wand is not very intuitive, and other software uses wand buttons for wholly different purposes (e.g. masking.) The the "format painter" (with paintbrush) button in much software might be more intuitive, or at least better known.

Some good suggestions. Also I'd like to get rid of some of those modes, e.g. replace link/unlink mode with actions on the textframe handles. And why has rotate a toolbutton and edit shape has not?

There will be an edit shape toolbar

I also suggest to add more info to the status bar, eg the name of the currently selected item plus the info currently available in the context menu. Perhaps it'd be even a good idea to enable a double click on the statuts bar entries to change the values (if possible).
