Summary0005385: Bug creating the /DA attribute of PDF forms
DescriptionThe Tf operator of the /DA attribute of PDF forms references Fonts by their name (Helvetica) instead of by their tag inside the /DR dictionary. I'm uploading the file used to create the said pdf.
Additional Information[01:04] <MrB> :)
[01:04] <tsdgeos> here i am
[01:04] <tsdgeos> ok
[01:04] <tsdgeos> the problematic pdf is http://kpdf.kde.org/okular/stuff/forms-scribus.pdf [^]
[01:04] <tsdgeos> that's the 1.3.3.6 generated pdf
[01:04] <tsdgeos> but the 1.3.3.8 one has the same problem
[01:05] <tsdgeos> if you have a look
[01:05] <tsdgeos> the DA entries of the annotations look like this
[01:05] <MrB> ?
[01:05] <tsdgeos> hmm
[01:05] <mrdocs> where is franz ?
[01:06] <MrB> [00:45] <fschmid> have to leave now, goodnight to all, cya
[01:06] <tsdgeos> /DA (/Helvetica 12.00000 Tf 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 rg
[01:06] <tsdgeos> So it is asking for a font called "Helvetica"
[01:06] <MrB> yes
[01:06] <tsdgeos> but if you look at DR, obj 128
[01:06] <MrB> thats ok
[01:06] <tsdgeos> no, that's wrong
[01:07] <tsdgeos> let me follow
[01:07] <tsdgeos> the DR, that is obj 128
[01:07] <tsdgeos> has no font called Helvetica
[01:07] <tsdgeos> the helvetica font is called FoStd0
[01:08] <mrdocs> tsdgeos: can you dcc the sla ?
[01:08] <tsdgeos> if you see other places that reference Helvetica do it correctly and call
[01:08] <avox> Helvetica is a std font which all PDF viewers support
[01:08] <tsdgeos> /FoStd0 12.00000 Tf
[01:08] <tsdgeos> hmm
[01:08] <tsdgeos> i'll try :D
[01:09] <tsdgeos> nah i can't :D
[01:09] <mrdocs> or mrdocs@scribus.info
[01:09] <tsdgeos> better :D
[01:09] <mrdocs> whatever is easier
[01:09] <MrB> but helvetica is the standard helvetica, no? ie that must be defined for form use in pdf < 1.4? 1.5?
[01:10] <avox> < 1.4 AFAIK
[01:10] <MrB> yep
[01:10] <tsdgeos> sure?
[01:11] <MrB> helvetica and some others *must* exist as per pdf standard
[01:12] <tsdgeos> that's completely different imho
[01:12] <tsdgeos> one thing is that helvetica has to exist
[01:12] <tsdgeos> and other that you are referencing it correctly
[01:12] <MrB> in pdf < 1.4, they are the only fonts usable for forms
[01:12] <tsdgeos> spec says "At a minimum, the
[01:12] <tsdgeos> string must include a Tf (text font) operator along with its two operands, font and
[01:12] <tsdgeos> size. The specified font value must match a resource name in the Font entry of the
[01:12] <tsdgeos> default resource dictionary (referenced from the DR entry of the interactive form
[01:12] <tsdgeos> dictionary; see Table 8.63)."
[01:13] <tsdgeos> from that i don't understand you can put "Helvetica" in there and hope it to work
[01:13] <MrB> could be so
[01:14] <MrB> let me read my spec book for a moment
[01:17] <MrB> hmm
[01:18] <MrB> At a minimum, this dictionary (..DR..) must contain a Font entry specifying the resource name and font dictionary of the default font for displaying text
[01:19] <avox> I think tsdgeos is right here...
[01:19] <MrB> yep
[01:20] <tsdgeos> so what now? do you want me to file a bug?
[01:20] * mrdocs nods
[01:20] <MrB> if ((Seite.FormObjects.count() != 0) || (CalcFields.count() != 0))
[01:20] <MrB> PutDoc("/NeedAppearances true\n/DR "+QString::number(ResO)+" 0 R\n");
[01:22] <avox> bug, and add a copy of this discussion as additional info
[01:22] <tsdgeos> ok
[01:22] <tsdgeos> creating my account
[01:22] <MrB> thanks tsdgeos :)
[01:23] <tsdgeos> well, we found that while testing our new code for forms
[01:23] <tsdgeos> and wanted to know if was a problem on our or in yours side :D
[01:23] <MrB> :)

fschmid, two additional questions:
-- have you fixed the issue in 1.3.4 tree as well?
-- is it a dupe of 0004620 ? If yes, you could resolve the other one too

1) fixed in 1.3.4cvs as well. BTW bugs fixed in 1.3.3.x will be fixed in 1.3.4cvs too if needed.
2) not really a dupe of 0004620, but related. Will resolve 0004620 too.
