Summary0006986: Inverted images in PDF caused by incorrect handling of DecodeArray by some rips/softs
DescriptionWe created a document with Scribus and exported it as a PDF. The produced PDF displayed fine in Acrobat 8.0 and Adobe Reader 8.0. However, pictures were shown inverted in Adobe Illustrator CS 3. The same happened on the RIP for the prepress imagesetter. After opening the PDF in Acrobat 8.0 and optimizing it for PDF/X3, the problem is gone.

Attached, you can find the .sla document and the image files as well as the Scribus-generated PDF and the "fixed" PDF made with Adobe X/3 PDF export module.

Please let us know if you need further information.

I think the reason of this issue is clearly explained there :
http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3bc7664e
To be clear, this is not a Scribus issue. It seems that this RIP and Adobe Illustrator CS 3 do not process the image DecodeArray properly. Processing that array is essential for displaying properly images in PDF files. I tested your files with our own rip and the output was as expected.
It seems we'll have to avoid using DecodeArrays when possible for optimizing compatibility with those broken Rips
