Platform | x86 | OS | linux | OS Version | Debian Sid |
Product Version | 1.3.5svn
Summary | 0007098: Fonts name change with new Freetype2
Description | Last days (2008-06-16), Debian Sid gives me an upgrade for libfreetype2 -> 2.3.6-1. I updated and compiled Scribus as i make every day ! No problem for compilation and installation. The problem is when i wanted to open an existing SLA with some T1 font (from Arkandis). Scribus showed me the "subsitution Window Fonts" ... I searched a few things in differents OS (OpenSuse, Debian Lenny, and Windows). I noticed that all these had freetype2-2.3.5. So if people have this version, it's not a propblem for them... Only version 2.3.6 make trouble. I also read the release note for Freetype2 2.3.6 and i don't understand anything ! I mean i don't understand why these new realease "should be weird" with Scribus. => http://sourceforge.net/project/shownotes.php?group_id=3157&release_id=605780 Scribus-1.3.3.13svn and Scribus-1.3.5svn are affected by this. Only fonts T1 seem to be affected and renamed by Scribus.

That issue is caused by a freetype 2.3.6 function returning a different result than before, not by Scribus. |
|
To avaoid such problem, Scribus could directly grab names rather than rely on Freetype algo. Just have red a mail on Freetype ML that it has been reworked today so it will possibily give yet another name at next release. |
|
The bug has been fixed in freetype-cvs (just tested it). A new version is currently planned for release on 23th. |
|
Freetype 2.3.7 has been released and fix the issue |

Partially resorbed ! I've build freetype-cvs as you told me last day. I have again some trouble with fonts name. Computer Modern Bright Light, DejaVu Serif Condensed, Aurelis ADF Light Normal, Aurelis ADF Light Bold change the font name. DejaVu is a TTF font. When i create a new Document i can see these font name strange. If i open an existing document which implements these fonts, Scribus sees red !!! Now, i notice something so strange. I have a dual boot. Debian Lenny (freetype 2.3.5) and Debian Sid (freetype 2.3.7). I always build Scribus 1.3.5 under Debian Sid. Then i copy paste binaries on Lenny from Sid. No problem with that stuff. I noticed that the same fonts name (DejaVu, CM, Aurelis) appeared. http://pix.nofrag.com/7/4/1/c60e7c6505cebc4679b6a6b9c9962.html So what's happen with that ? |

>> Computer Modern Bright Light, DejaVu Serif Condensed, Aurelis ADF Light Normal, Aurelis ADF Light Bold change the font name. Cannot reproduce here with Freetype 2.3.7. |
