Summary 0008560: define a color space for the document
Description there should be a document settings which defines a color space for the document.

a list of possible values available would be:
- RGB
- CMYK
- mixed
- managed

the default should probably be RGB or mixed.

mixed would be a *the* dangerous choice, but should be allowed.
Steps To Reproduce
Additional Information the idea behind it is to let the user choose which color space (s)he wants and help him/her getting a consistent work.

this choice should not come in the way or take any (ill) freedom from the user. but it should
- put warnings if the user wishes so (that is if (s)he doesn't go for mixed)
- and give scribus a chance to make saner choices.

the two cases where i think this should be show up are:
- the preflight verifier would warn if there are colors in use (text and vectors) which don't match the chosen color space
- the default colors enforced by scribus (black and white) should be in the chosen color space (deleting the unused colors should leave behind CMYK (default) or RGB black and white depending on the setting).

we could also have a "[ ] enforce this" (i can't find a better name right now) checkbox which -- taking the exampe of the RGB choice -- would disable:
- creating CMYK colors
- importing CMYK images
- and would delete all the CMYK colors currently defined but not in use yet

Well, imo i does not make much sense to create such a document setting if you can choose the colorspace on output and if the prog can do the conversions for you. It would create also additional manipulations for users as some image format for eg. PNG do not support CMYK and would force them to do color conversions outside of Scribus with color management settings possibly not consistent with Scribus ones or worse no color management at all. So that prolly defeat the purpose of the idea.

the idea came to me as i was teaching how to use scribus to a new user.

i told her, that she should only use RGB (without color management since she is working on a cheap laptop).

as we deleted the unused colors, CMYK white and black were the only color remaining. i would have preferred having RGB white and black being left over.

the pictures she will use are RGB photos that she has already edited in gimp.

i thought, that it would be nice, if tin such a context here was a way to give warnings if a CMYK color slips in.

this setting will never replace a proper color management, but may help avoid a category of stupid errors for people, who are not ready to use a CMS.

i think that it may also be a first step for the user towards understanding the issues related to color management.

i don't consider this an important feature but i believe it may be handy in some cases (most of all for non professional users)

While I think the idea behind the RFE is noble, I also think that it makes the use much_ more complicated and may not work at all in some situations.

Hence, I vote for closing.

Closing, as this looks like a clear won't fix
