Summary0009814: Latex Render frames fails with documents larger than a4
DescriptionWhen working on a page larger than a4 (e.g an a0 poster), Latex only renders the text to the width of a4 and no more than that.

The problem is that in the Latex configuration file it is defined as \documentclass[a4paper,$font_size$]{extarticle} which does not permit Latex to print text to a larger file (even though the textwidth property is set correctly).

The fix I used is to edit the latex XML file and change the documentclass declaration to \documentclass[a0,$font_size]{a0poster}
(this of course requires the a0poster package to be installed).

I don't know if this is the optimal fix, but for me it works.
Steps To ReproduceCreate a new document with A0 as the document size.

Add a render frame which is much larger than a4.

Add some really long or really big text and see that it gets cropped.

Stumbled over that too. We make a lot of Documents larger than a4 here, so the a4 limitation is a bit annoying. Using document size or even let user select latex frame size would be great.

I fixed this by changing the \geometry line in 100_latex.xml:

\usepackage[paperwidth=$scribus_realwidth$ pt,left=0cm,top=0cm,right=0cm,bottom=0cm,nohead,nofoot]{geometry}

The geometry package takes care of the page size then. Probably this is a better fix than mangling with sometimes fitting, sometimes not fitting default page sizes.

This can be fixed by removing the a4paper option of the \usepackage and instead set the paper size manually with TeX:

        \documentclass[$scribus_fontsize$]{extarticle}
                \setlength\paperheight {$scribus_realheight$ pt}
                \setlength\paperwidth {$scribus_realwidth$ pt}

(in 100_latex.xml). This won't need the a0poster package which isn't standard and will render even a0 (or more) wide render frames.

Works with the latest 1.50svn trunk of today.

I hope this little "patch" could be accepted. :)

Cheers

Hi Scribus team,

IMO, this is a real show stopper for people that want to use LaTeX. I know of a few people that would really use Scribus for creating scientific posters since it offers the perfect combination of freedom to design and adding math formulas.

Right now people use either PowerPoint or Latex both of which aren't great.
I've used both, Powerpoint and Latex, for Posters before and now arrived at Scribus and it's by far the best. I love it.

1. Can I help the team with this somehow? Do you need testing?
2. Did you want me to create a patch?
3. I think the solution of user ypnos is probably best. The geometry package is available in all latex distributions and it sets the paperwidth reliably. It may be good to remove the "a4paper" option so to no confuse people.

Cheers & Thanks for all the great work!

rauh, if you want to create a patch, that'd be great. You can upload it here.
