As this feature is a feature from QFileDialog from Qt itself, is's likely a Qt bug. Scribus in all versiona does nothing with Bookmarks here.

Yeah it is a Qt bug in Qt 5.2.1 at least, do not remember about 5.2.0. Qt 5.1.1 works as expected on Windows.

On openSUSE 13.1 (Qt 5.2.1) the entries added in the left column are saved as expected.

Issue is there in Ubuntu13.10 with both Qt5.2.0 and Qt5.2.1

AMOF there is no need to close Scribus for the FileDialog to forget the bookmarked folders : closing the dialog is enough.

OK I posted https://bugreports.qt-project.org/browse/QTBUG-36888

Qt has answered on Qt bugtracker's page.

Answer mentions :
- QFileDialog destructor saves the settings and in QFileDialogPrivate::init restores them.
> Could it be that one of these is not properly called ?

- KDE has their own dialogs, so the bug could be there (but that's probably irrelevant when running a Qt 5 application on KDE 4)
> Are you using KDE on your opensuse Firash ?

- Qt might have been built with #define QT_NO_SETTINGS
...

JLuc, I'm using KDE 4.11.5 and Scribus is compiled with QT 5.2.1.

No need to change subject, the patch does not apply directly to scribus code.

Craig, from Shawn R (Qt dev)
Tried qtbase/tests/manual/dialogs on 5.6 branch on OS X 10.11. Unhecked the checkbox "Use native dialog" and dragged a new folder to the sidebar. It's still there the next time I open the file dialog and the next time I run it. The settings are saved to ~/Library/Preferences/com.qtproject.plist, which is a binary file but I can open it with xcode, and I see the shortcut I added in the list under FileDialog.shortcuts.

Kunda, as mentionned by Franz in the first note of this issue, bookmarks is a feature from QFileDialog, so we do not manage those at all. Those bookmarks are entirely managed by Qt.

jghali, understood. according to Shawn R. (0012068:0038786) it's fixed in Qt5.6 on OSX. I haven't tested it on 5.6 yet

Ok, further digging:
Per the Qt Dev:
The settings are saved to ~/Library/Preferences/com.qtproject.plist, which is a binary file but I can open it with xcode, and I see the shortcut I added in the list under FileDialog.shortcuts.

So here i what I did:
1) Opened a the Open File Dialog
2) Dragged a new folder in to the Shortcuts area
3) Go to Finder and QuickLook at ~/Library/Preferences/com.qtproject.plist FileDialog.shortcuts
4) I can see the new folder appended to FileDialog.shortcuts
5) Reopen Open File dialog
Result:
I don't see the shortcut in the dialog

Perhaps if I restart Scribus ?
6) Restart Scribus
7) I still see ~/Library/Preferences/com.qtproject.plist that the shortcut is still in the .plist
8) Open the Open File dialog
Result: I don't see the shortcut in the GUI

9) Look at the ~/Library/Preferences/com.qtproject.plist again
Result: I don't see the entry in the FileDialog.shortcuts anymore

Very confused

i don’t have scribus 1.5.2. so i tested with 1.5.1 on macOS 10.11.4:
scribus seems to open the open file and save file dialog without connection to ‚~/Library/Preferences/com.qtproject.plist‘, but it overwrites this .plist with the standard entries (‚desktop’ and ‚volumes‘) when i close either the dialog or the program.

Is this still an issue on Mac with new Qt and Scribus versions ?

just tested with scribus 1.5.5 and 1.5.6-r23195 on macOS 10.14.6.
scribus still 'forgets' the shortcuts (replaces them with 'volumes' and 'desktop').
