On 1.5.x, the scrapbook dialog is a mere file browser:
- create a new scrapbook page, scribus will ask you to choose a directory
- place your elements in the new page
- hand the directory and its content to any user
- user can create a new scrapbook page by pointing to the given directory and see the elements

So basically there is no need to "save" scrapbooks in 1.5.x

This isn't user-friendly. I expect the scrapbooks to be stored in the default location, but also to be able to export them to another location. Scrapbooks should just be handled like files: Save and afterwards Save As.

i'm comfortable with storing the global scrapbook in a default location (which one should be able to choose).
as already asked in the past, it would be very nice to open scrapbooks in a way that it's always available with the specific document (and collected for output?)

What about storing used Scrapbook (and Inline Items, Symbols, Patterns etc.) automatically in a SLA file?

In addition, Scribus should ask whether these items should be stored in the SLA file upon saving a file.

imo, scribus should not ask anything on saving.

before defining how "local" scrapbooks should work, we should first try to specify what they are good for and how people could use them.
i have a rough idea of what i could do with them, but i would need to spend some more time on thinking about possible use cases and how to best support each of them before being able if saving scrapbooks in a .sla is a good idea or not (but at first sight it does not look like a good idea).

Yes, Scribus should ask! If you work with a SLA file that makes use of Scrapbook items (and Symbols/Patterns), those should be available even after you transfer the file to another computer. 1.5.x has the capability to store even pixmaps in SLA files, so this can be made possible now.

yes, but scribus does not ask on save if you want to store the images in the sla.

this should be a setting that can be set (if ever) not the matter of a popup dialog on save.

>> 1.5.x has the capability to store even pixmaps in SLA files, so this can be made possible now.

Except that:
- a scrapbook in 1.5.x can be constituted of a directory of image files *independently of any scribus objects*, and SLA format is currently not able to describe such resources
- storing images in the SLA is extremely inefficient storage wise
- storing images in the SLA decrease loading performance as those images have to be written again on disk
- that increase risk of corruption of the document
