Summary0010630: New feature : export to screen light PDFs
DescriptionScribus provides a powerfull and fully flavored press quality PDF export.
The created PDFs fit perfectly the professional printer needs, but they cannot easily be spread across the web since they are rather very heavy in size.
Scribus allready provides a "screen" destination option as for PDF export, but as far as i know, this only tackles with colours, and as a consequence, the created PDF is no smaller.
However, the web has now become a very common and professionnal way of communicating and using PDFs. So the request is to provide a new PDF creation mode that would generate smaller PDFs that would fit the web.
This new mode would be automatically activated on "screen" destination PDF export.
Additional InformationIt seems there are at least 2 ways that might lead to create smaller for screen PDFs :
- dont place each glyph absolute one by one
- crop images so that the PDF contains only the necessary part of the images (that improvement would be usefull even for press PDFs).

I agree to JLuc, that this is a needed feature.
Forcing users to work with external tools is no nice workaround to get more people using this great tool.

Both of your points are covered in other bugs.. this is a duplicate.

I had looked through open bugs in the database and could not find this same request since other bugs deal with specific aspects of the PDF size in some circumstances.

Avalarion.. that is irrelevant.. opening more bugs to get the same issue fixed does not avail us with more time or change our priorities.

I explored open bugs and closed bugs aswell. Interesting related bugs i could find are :

- 0002731 : related to PDF size of "printer" type output (not screen)

- 0010505 : PDF size considering image compression and possible heuristics

- 0001354 might be the closest and has been closed as "not an issue compared to press PDFs". But the present 0010630 request is for a *new feature* not related to press PDFs but to professionnal PDFs intended for the web.

So however the pdf size can be the subject in the bug tracker almost since the begining of the bug tracker (0000256), I think this 0010630 is not a duplicate in the actual state of the tickets database.

Sorry but this is a duplicate : solving this issue will only be the consequence of solving other logged issues, noticeably 0009478, 0009799, 0010615 and a few others. This issue won't require any additional code other than one needed to solve those already logged issues and by consequence can only be considered as a duplicate.
