Summary | 0011593: IDML Import : thin spaces are not imported properly
Description | Some spaces before : or ; or % or » or after « display as red empty squares. It seems their code is E28089 = thin space Thin space is not defined in the font that is used in the file here, that's why scribus displays a red square. I guess In Design is less rigid with such issues and enables the designer to use such features and does the necessary job to produce the expected output. Maybe it even provides a global function to convert all spaces toward thin spaces when necessary, so as to get a correct typo layout. That's a problem when importing such a file because all the thin spaces do not display properly. I'm not sure what the best solution is : - emulate thin spaces when they do not exist ? at least for imported files...(or for any files ! That would be a shift in scribus but i do not see any risks in shrinking spaces, and it would provide a usefull new feature.) - replace thin space with some scribus-correct glyph ? like a normal space... [Edit] list of red empty spaces in uploaded document See #11597 uploaded documents : a sample idml file displaying this, along with matching PDF and used fonts. I see red empty squares for spaces : - in «?pâte à fixer?» text in right column of page 6 - in various places of page 8 (mainly titles, but also "Exemples?: “prendre soin de la planète, la confiance, le respect, l’équité, la coopération...” - in subtitle of page 11 - in title of page 14.

Maybe we should wait until Cezary has created patches for features mentioned in http://www.scribus-ece.info/News/Typographic%20spaces/ and http://www.scribus-ece.info/News/Text%20Validator%20as%20plugin/ |

Jluc, does this issue still persist. I'm not seeing red empty squares BUT i am seeing layout issues for example with bullets |
|
I see red empty squares - in «?pâte à fixer?» text in right column of page 6 - in various places of page 8 (mainly titles, but also "Exemples?: “prendre soin de la planète, la confiance, le respect, l’équité, la coopération...” - in subtitle of page 11 - in title of page 14. True there are also issues with bullets : they are too big and too high. And there are issues with some text boxes being too small and text dont fit inside it : - Right pages page number dont fit in its frame in all right pages footer - Right column frame in page 6 - Big text length differences can be seen in all long texts. For example with long flowing text on page 6 to 9. (Scribus text takes less place, either fonts or heigth of line is smaller or frames are biger ? this contradicts the fact that some text dont fit in theyr box anymore). - Other example consequence : p11 hyphen in first paragraph is not done in same place / not |

I create another bug : #11597 for not-spaces-relatad import issues. |
