Summary | 0001168: Text Frame Styles
Description | A style definition for text frames dealing with text-flow, continuation messages and automatic dividers when surrounded by other text frames.
Additional Information | Example: story starts on front page, continues on page 5 with a linked text frame. This example would print a continuation message at the bottom of the text frame on page 1: See '[frame-name]' on page [page] Automatic dividers are used to visually seperate stories (non-linked text frames) on the same page.

Ignore the . . . . . . dots. Imagine spaces instead :) Mantis likes to eat tabs and spaces. |

As a general statement, I like stylesheets. Scribus is ahead of some well-known DTP apps with the Line Style. I think it's a good direction. So, I like your idea of the Frame Style. Only, I do have a question about the *dividers*. Can you give a better example for using this? Also, what is behind the See [frame-name] on page [page]? Is this something you want actually printed on the page? Or just an indication that would be in the Properties palette? Sorry if I didn't get it! Please give more details or real-life examples. |

>>> Only, I do have a question about the *dividers*. Can you give a better example for using this? Horizontal or vertical dividers (lines) between different stories. Like gutterlines, but only to visually seperate different content. Used often in newspapers and magazines. >>> Also, what is behind the See '[frame-name]' on page [page-number]? For example: a story that starts on page 1, and continues on page 5. It will inherit the name of the frame [frame-name] it is linked to, and the page number of the page [page-number] on which that text frame appears: See 'Elections' on page 5. Very handy for linked text frames that continue on different pages. |

OK. Understand. Then we'd need options as to where and what distance from text frame the divider would be, as well as line width, color, etc. (line style) or a *Divider style*. I find *automatic* to be a bit of an issue if no options are left to users for customization!!! ;-) We can relate the Divider feature to my feature request for automated gutterline(s) (thank you for the nice word!). Have a look at bug 0001150. Of course, your idea goes farther. For *Continuation text* we'd also need the full set of options: Paragraph Styles + Position of text frame. Do you think all those *styled* elements should be at one point totally customizable afterwards? I mean, these elements would behave like a template: if you don't modify them manually, it will always be possible to affect them through the *Divider dialog* (for instance). On the other hand, if you manually modify a divider, then the link with this dialog is broken and, from then on, the object is treated like any other *free* object on the page? |

>>> I find *automatic* [divider lines] to be a bit of an issue if no options are left to users for customization! I agree. The functionality part hasn't really fleshed out yet. It ought to have the capability to at least assign a Line-Style to it, so you can use the line style properties for further enhancements: [ ] Automatic Dividers [Line-Style ------------- |^] This represents a drop-down menu with the currently defined line-styles, and a preview of that line style. |

This would make sense, though I'm not sure when it'd be practical to do. |
