Summary | 0012920: Scribus should ensure fonts are either embeded or outlined
Description | As it is, created PDFs sometime lack font definitions (some used fonts that are not outlined are not embeded) which is serious DTP issue with severe consequences. Generally speaking : In 99% of PDF being created, ALL fonts should be either embeded or outlined. That percentage probably rises to 99.999% when restricted to professional printers dedicated PDFs. Consequence : Scribus should NOT allow to have fonts that are neither embeded nor outlined in the created PDF. Fonts that are not outlined should be embeded. All fonts should be carefully checked when creating the PDF, and all not outlined fonts should be embeded.
Additional Information | - In case 1% is too much (1% usecases where a font has to be used without being outlined nor embeded)(or 0.001% when restricted to professionnal printers dedicated PDFs) then create an option to allow not outlined not embeded fonts (in the application or ducument preferences, or in the PDF export dialog). - About this same issue : 0010770 requests that the preflight checker checks for such neither embeded nor outlined fonts. As MrB explains it, this would be complex since the PDF options (including fonts related) are choosen *after* the preflight checker is called. Hence, the preflight checker cannot check fonts as it is. It should maybe be split into 2 parts : one before PDF options, one after PDF options (just before creating PDF). Or some other complex workflow change.

Current issue is simple and straightforward : dont allow mistakes : UI and internal code should not allow wrong PDFs to be issued with wrong option fonts. 0011013 is "When exporting to PDF the default should be to embed the fonts". Its not a duplicate since its about "better defaulting" (not about not allowing wrong options). |
|
In 1.5.1.svn the font options in PDF export dialog have been modified. The default is now to embed or subset all fonts and the "do not embed" option has to be explicitly choosen for fonts to not be embedded. |
