Summary | 0013262: New Document dialog different when 1st starting Scribus should be default ?
Description | When one first starts Scribus they get a New Document dialog that has 4 tabs New Document | New from Template | Open Existing Document | Open Recent Document This dialog only appears once. After that anytime a new document dialog is initiated the dialog only has one tab: New Document. Should the default New Document dialog be the former rather than the latter ?

imo, that dialog is mostly useless and slightly harmful. if you want to be fast, just use ctrl-n, ctrl-o or alt-f-e-1 (or similar) or the mouse and select the menu entries from the navigation (or click on the toolbar if you're displaying it). the dialog with the four tabs is for most (if not all) use cases slower and harder to understand than any of the alternatives already in scribus. and, still, it's the most prominent one! i have to admit that the fact that this dialog is only shown on scribus startup makes it even uselesser, since users cannot reach it otherwise. something like libreoffice has (full window list of recent files and shortcuts to files creation) is already a better concept (most of all, because in LO you can create different types of documents) but also not as useful as it looks at first sight. personally, i'm for disabling the dialog by default and letting users enable it if they really want. |
