Summary0013789: Interpret ~ (home directory) symbol in Export/Save fields
DescriptionThe '~' (home directory) symbol is not respected when prompted for the file name you want to save the PDF to.
Steps To Reproduce1) Open new document
2) Click File > Export > Save as PDF
3) in the 'Output to File:' prepend ~/ before the file name
Result: Scribus appends the ~/ to the current `pwd` instead of interpreting the users' home directory.

Using "~" is a bash-ism. This is the command line shell which interprets this character as the home directory. Using "~" as an equivalent of home directory is not valid anywhere else.

Ok, changed this ticket from bug to feature.
GIMP supports this feature.

OSX's TextEdit and LO support it. When you type a ~ or / in the save dialog, it asks you what directory you want to save into.

1.6 milestone.. its simple to do, but we need to decide on behaviour.

Per IRC
2:01 PM	<jghali> i don't use libreoffice on windows
2:01 PM	<jghali> on Windows, '~' can be a folder name
2:02 PM	<jghali> so imo there is no reason to treat it as an equivalent of home directory
2:02 PM	<Kunda> so the feature will only apply to *nix and OSX ?
2:03 PM	<jghali> likely
