Summary | 0014718: View Tools dont fit in vertical toolbar
Description | A nice display space is a lot of benefit for DTP work. On most modern screen the ratio of the screen is very horizontal (16/9 or 16/10 rather than the traditional 4/3) and vertical space is scarce. Hence, having the toolbars in a vertical shape far left or far right is obviously a way to make best use of available screen. It's ok for all toolbars except for "View Tool" which is 3 times wider than it should be, because of the options text. When aligning this tool bar along with the others, the whole toolbar becomes 3 times wider than it should be, thus loosing lot of nice display space. I see 4 possible ways to fix that issue or improve it : - use a combobox that keeps a small visible part when not used (?) - use short option names instead of full words. For ex HR (for High resolution) / MR (for medium) or N (for normal) / LR Low resolution) or use wellknown "HD", or wellknown XL / M / XS - use icons instead of textes for the options label Or : - use a set of 3 on/off buttons instead of a combo-box. This option has the advantage that its possible to add a hint bubble to each. As an example of possible icons i suggest using or finding inspiration out of the ones i attach to this file.
Additional Information | [EDIT] Moreover, when set in vertical view mode, it happens very quickly that vertical couloured stripes do fill the empty space, as seen on uploaded screenshot

i still think that the view toolbar is not a good idea... parts of it should be in the status bar (probably only enabling / disabling the preview mode), the rest simply in the menus... |
