| Summary | 0015474: rename, remove, add the default master pages when changing the layout | ||||
| Description | since it seems to be impossible to remove the default master pages, scribus should really manage them. when moving from a single to a double layout, scribus should ask if the left or the right, both or none should get the content of the normal master page. then the normal master page should be deleted (or renamed in left or right) when moving from a double to a single layout, scribus should ask if the left, the right, or none should be inherited in the normal master page. the left and right master pages should be deleted (or the one picked for the inheritance renamed). please, the team, comment on this ticket to let the people know if this suggestion is something you'd like new contributor to work on. | ||||

I'm using Scribus 1.6.3, I noticed the Normal Master page cannot be renamed or deleted. I wonder if this is so there is always at least 1 Master page? If so, maybe maybe when users try to select the Delete icon a pop up could say "You must have at least 1 Master page." instead and then let users delete the Normal master page if there is at least one other? I've attached a screenshot of the user interface with the Normal master page selected (Accessed by going to Edit > Master Pages and the pop up dialog Manage Masterpages). Even though it cannot be deleted the delete icon has no change, and gives no feedback when selected. So if there is a reason for the Normal master page being impossible to delete, ideally it should be communicated to the user that it cannot be deleted and why. At least it should be possible to rename it as well. Personally, I don't find a page called "Normal" very useful because it is not informative. I usually like to name my master pages something more specific like "First page" or "Left page" or "Right page" or something else that communicates something about the layout. |
