Summary | 0015544: Template Menükarte_1 should use proper small capitals
Description | When I create a document based on the Menükarte_1 template, the dialog for font substitutions appears. Since I'm on a Windows PC, I select Calibri Regular for both fonts. This renders the upper line of each menu item with ugly small capitals since the uppercase letters are much thicker than the lowercase letters, as can be seen in the first screenshot. Curiously, in the F3 window for Styles, Scribus offers two ways of small capitals: one with a [k] icon, and the other one in the Font Settings. Disabling the small capitals from the [k] icon and enabling the font-provided small capitals renders them beautifully, as shown in the second screenshot. The template Menükarte_1 should use the beautiful small capitals from the beginning.

There is absolutely no guarantee that a particular font contains true small capitals... And the font used in that template in fact does not. >> Scribus offers two ways of small capitals: one with a [k] icon, and the other one in the Font Settings The first with a [k] icon allows to simulate small capitals whatever the font is, for the second one, the font needs to contain true small capitals, so that setting is not available for every fonts. |
