Summary0016030: correctly import .ai and / or .pdf templates for a specific online printing service
Descriptioneasyflyer is providing a zip file containing an .ai and a .pdf file to be used as a base for creating flyers.

https://www.easyflyer.fr/flyers/standard/10-x-15-cm-carte-postale/135g/recto/flyer-a6-recto-1000-ex.html

scribus can open both files, but the result is not "good enough" for building the upon them:

- opening the .pdf file gives an exact layout but all information about the layers is lost (and it's not possible to know which items are to be hidden and where the designer should work)
- opening the .ai part of the .ai file gives a file with the correct layers information but we get only one page instead of two and there is no real content shown.
- opening the .pdf fpart of the .ai file gives the right content but completely loses the layers information.

There is only one layer which contains importable elements, this is the one which contains the technical instructions.. and whose elements will have to be removed including the layer if you ever want to use this as a template. The "Template" layer contains no elements and is consequently not very useful as a template. You will just be faster creating directly a document with proper page size and bleeds.

Same, if you want to use this as a template, you will be quicker to create a document directly with correct page size and bleeds. These documents are pretty useless as templates given the additional work they require before being usable.

i would be faster yes!

but that's not the point.

being able to correctly open the templates provided by such print shops will help the "less technical" user to simply follow the instructions provided on the website.

if it's not possible, that's not a huge issue. but if it's possible and not too cumbersome to correctly import the layer information that would be a huge advantage for the "casual" scribus user that need to create a flyer or a simple brochure.

there are a few print services that provide .sla files, but i fear that they will be a minority for a few more years...
