Summary0017074: make "extra > picture browser" dockable
Descriptionpersonally, i think i've never used the picture browser.

but, now that i have a left docking area, i guess that if i would use it, i would want it to be docked to the left.

is it possible to have dialogs that recognized they are docked and then have a vertical (different) layout?

That dialogs looks way to big to me to make it dockable.

Not sure how to do this with Qt, I guess it would be easier to do this with QML, but bridging QML and C++ is a bit hellish.

It is a huge dialog with a lot of functions. I think it is possible to make it dockable, but the size must be reduced significantly. In example, by replacing combo boxes with tool buttons with context menu and collapsible sections. I made a quick and dirty mockup to illustrate that.

i clicked around in the picture browser and i have the feeling that several things do not work correctly.

but i got a feeling of what is around.

and i can think that the picture browser could go in several directions.

as an example, only the list of images that can be inserted by drag and drop is in the panel. with some of the information, buttons & co that are useful while inserting the images.
but other parts could go to modals dialog that are used to setup the values but are not kept open all the time.
i don't really like the expandable section...
(somehow i would prefer to have everything on screen... but we are already hiding most of the UI behind tabs, so it's not a big difference.)

finally, i wonder a bit, if the picture browser should not be an "independent" tool for managing images... an own application.
... or simply be discarded, since i can use any file manager, even one specific to images like geeqie, for inserting and managing the images.
do we really have the workforce for maintaining an image manager?
is there a need for an image manager inside of scribus?
what is the advantage over using one of the many already existing tools, outside of scribus?

as said, i don't use this tool.
and i don't really have the feeling that many people are using (if any).
so my reflections are more to be seen as a search for making this tool more popular (or maybe remove it, in the case we don't see how to make it a good choice for image management).
