I can't reproduce in Linux Mint and Scribus 1.6.2
...but I've seen this (once upon a time) and Scribus wasn't the source of the problem. Unfortunately I don't remember what solved the problem.

It seems these JPEG files present themselves as CMYK in their headers, but they are in fact using YCCK colorspace, a common method for encoding CMYK data in jpeg files. There is apparently some method around there to detect the issue and automatically fix it, however I currently don't know which method it is.

Thank you everyone for the responses - is there a way or some filter that we could apply using Python scripts so they load properly. Just to give a little background - these images are used by a publishing company which generates these media and they are used by different users on different applications so i cannot ask them to create another copy as that would double their work.
I need to find some solution wherein we are able to handle it in Scribus

Any help in this regards would be highly appreciated

i don't know how to fix the bug (and why it doesn't affect images in an other os than windows…) but as a workaround i would convert the images to another format. (i.e. .tif)

It's the libjpeg library and how it treats those image file formats. On Linux and MacOS our binaries use libjpeg-turbo

are there any other libraries that we could use in place of this default one?

No, changing the default library would require the whole program to be rebuild from scratch. Anyway I added a workaround for these somewhat broken jpeg files so that they can be processed correctly by standard libjpeg.
