Summary | 0017515: Book Length Fail
Description | Hi Scribus! I love this tool. I use it for novel-length projects, and encounter some problems sometimes. I tohught I would let you know in case the information is useful First problem: Scribus has difficulty handling a book length project. My novels are approx 280 pages, all text boxes linked in a chain. When I make any change to a page that requires a reshuffling of the text, the program hangs. I have to divide my project into two files, 150 pages each or so, to work with it. Then combine them when done. For example: I started a new book in Scribus 1.7 yesterday, full book in one file. I selected all the text, changed it from Automatic line spacing to Baseline. It made the change, but froze. Hope this helps! Tony

Normally, it's more about the length of the chain, rather than the "simple" number of pages. But, yes, we are aware that Scribus not always manages to handle long documents (despite some recent reports of people having managed to work with documents of about 300 pages). I'm closing this ticket, since there is not much actionable: Scribus will probably improve in this regard, but it's unlikely to happen very soon. |

One more remark: as qirat correctly wrote in the chat, you can try to set the preview level to "small" in the outline window. Other people reported a big improvement in speed by doing that (and we plan to improve things there in the future...) |
