Summary | 0017528: Object rotation input field is backwards
Description | The numeric values will increase when rotating an object counter clockwise. This is counter intuitive to how this is commonly implemented in other graphics programs, (gimp, inkscape, krita) plus this is rotational reference is take from directional compass degrees. This should follow the same pattern.
Additional Information | Noted this behavior in 1.5.8 through 1.7.0

We indeed use the mathematical definition of rotation : when rotation angle is positive, rotation direction is counterclockwise. |
|
the main issue i see, is that scribus does not have negative rotations. allowing the user to enter negative value (as proposed in the other ticket) would probably help. displaying negative values would also be useful but, then, scribus would need to keep the entered value (guessing if a value should be shown as a positive value or a negative one won't probably always be right). i also checked what indesign does, and it seems to do the same as scribus currently does. krita seems to act like gimp and inskape. personally, i'm still for doing the same as the other free tools but if there is no chance for this happen, please: - consider to allow the input of negative values (so that the user does not have to do the calculations) - close this ticket as "won't fix" |

Jean and I agree we need to keep the current rotation aligning to Indesign. However allowing negative values makes sense |
|
Per last remark, this issue is a won't fix. A patch has been applied to 1.6.x branch and trunk as part of 0017529 so that negative angle values get automatically adjusted to positive values. |
