Summary | 0017544: Support for right-to-left book binding and layout (Hebrew/Arabic books)
Description | Hello, I’m using Scribus to create a series of books in Hebrew, which, like Arabic, is written and structured right-to-left. In such books: The first page appears on the left when the book is opened. Page numbers increase from left to right. The book flows backward compared to Latin-based books. Right-hand pages often contain the original text (in RTL), while left-hand pages contain translations or commentary (in LTR). Scribus already handles RTL text input, which is fantastic. However, there is currently no support for RTL binding or mirrored page flow. As a result, I have to manually: Reorder pages Manage master pages manually for Hebrew vs. translation layout Track RTL page logic when assigning footers and headers A global moderator confirmed on the forum that this feature isn’t yet available — but also expressed interest in seeing it implemented. It would be extremely helpful for anyone working on books in Hebrew, Arabic, Persian, etc., to have: A “Right-to-Left Book Binding” option in document settings Automatic mirroring of layout logic (first page = left) Proper RTL-aware page numbering and master page assignment Thanks for your amazing work on Scribus. It’s already a great tool, and this feature would open it up further for multilingual publishing. All the best, David
