Summary0017564: Styles SELECT doesnt order styles in Style Edit palette.
Description"Select style" dropdown option list is sometimes displayed in no visible order. Maybe in creation order.

- OK : in Property Palette, its displayed in alphabetical order
- NOT OK : in the right pane of the F4 Style Edit Palette, it seems displayed in creation order, which is kindof random and not easy to choose from.
Eg : "No style / Default character style / MainTitle / Introduction / Title1 / Footnote / Highlight / Title2 / usw..."

Side note for F4 : there is an empty option in the middle of the other options (beside "No style" also existing entry).

[EDIT] the issue is in the right Edit-Style part of the Edit Style window (not the left hierarchicaly structured select)

Additional InformationSorry QT prevents any screen capture of a dropeddown select option list !
Couldnt find any dupe of this issue but i wouldnt be surprised there is one...

i have mixed feelings here.

i understand that having the list always in alphabetical order is appealing.

but the way it works in 1.7 is imo also ok:

- the styles are shown in alphabetical order.
- if you add styles, they are shown at the end of the list of styles, in order of creation.
- when you click the apply button, the styles are sorted alphabetically.

having them always in alphabetical order would not be that bad, but that would also mean that styles would jump around when you rename them.
the other question: when to sort? each time you type a character in the name or when you get out of the name field?

personally, i'm for the status quo.
(but there are other issues with that dialog that should be resolved! and they might affect the perception of the order: as an example, it's not clear when the style changes are applied and what means to apply them)

[EDIT] The reported issue here is only in the unordered option list of the right Edit-pane of the Style Select of the Style Edit windows.

There is no good reason why it should provide a different list than the style select ordered list in the Property Palette.

I don't really get what is the "right Edit-pane of the Style Select of the Style Edit windows".

It might sound like nitpicking, but I don't seem to be able to reproduce your issue with 1.7.
Have you tried it with 1.7?

I have a "Edit > Style" dialog called "Style Manager".
That is probably what you are mentioning.
It's opened by F4

In this dialog, I have a left pane with a list of styles.
As I've described above, the styles are in alphabetical order and new styles are appended to it.
They are in order of creation, but only for the time they are not definitive.
As soon as one presses the "Apply" button, the styles in that list get sorted alphabetically.

In the right pane, there is a drop down called "Based on".
That's probably what you reference as "Style Select".
This list is always sorted alphabetically, even while the styles are being created and not applied yet.

The list in the Content Palette is always sorted alphabetically and only shows the new styles, after they have been applied.

Everything seems fine to me... or am I missing another list?

Can you share a screen cast or clear steps to reproduce the issue you're facing?

(Btw, I can take screenshots of the Scribus dropdown with Gimp by setting to grab the whole screen after a short delay and then quickly activating the drop down)

Well... it might have been fixed. I didnt search in closed issues. I'll update scribus asap (july) and report back.

it also happen in Style manager / Import / Choose styles checkbox list. Beside in this list the character styles come first. They usualy come after paragraph styles in other scribus dialogs or palettes.
