Summary | 0017614: Slow response reinstating objects back to previous position
Description | Strange delayed behavior when moving text frames or any object in the layout, but the issue happens when moving back (reinstating to previous position) any text box or image box with the arrow keys from the keyboard (or even as an "undo" command). Now, the conditions in which this issue is happening are: - Big file (220 pages) - The file was originally created in Scribus 1.6.4 but then saved to 1.7 - It does not happen in 1.6 (it happens only in 1.7). It feels like a problem with quite big document (many pages ?), though, as I said, this thing does not happens in 1.6.4 - I wonder if is an issue on big documents created in 1.6 and saved in 1.7 ?? Hope it makes sense, Thanks a lot for your hard work to improve this software.
Steps To Reproduce | 1- Create and save a big file in Scribus 1.6.4 (in my case is one of 220 pages) though I am not sure how big it should be 2- the file should have plenty of text frames... 3- Open the same file in 1.7 and save it in that version 4- Try moving frames and ask to undo. or try get to previous position with the arrows in the keyboard. (you should see the very slow response) PS: I would have liked to share my file with you here but it takes up to 8 megas
Additional Information | I wonder if is an issue that happens when converting from 1.6 to 1.7 ? but in big files ? PS: I would have liked to share my file with you here but it takes up to 8 megas

which level of preview do you have in the "Arrange pages" document? if you've not done so yet, can you try to reduce it to medium or small? (you can do so with the context menu on the preview in the Arrange pages window) |
|
Hi, wow I am trying your suggestion and in fact, after changing the preview mode to small in the "pages order" panel the issue does not happen ! amazing, thanks a lot for your prompt response. Honestly I would have never guessed this would affect something I thought was more related to the page *design area) itself.. PS: I don't recall this in Scribus 1.6.4 since I use to work there with small previews .. and I did not jump yet totally into 1.7 (this one was one of the reasons) so many thanks ! |

the Arrange pages window is much nicer in 1.7, but it (still?) has some performance issues. i've heard of ideas on how to improve them, if i recall well some have already been implemented (and might not be in the released 1.7), and other are in the pipeline... |
