Summary | 0017641: Embedding Frames
Description | Scribus needs something link the Render frames but for embedding, instead of rendering. Rendering converts the external file into bitmap before handing it over to the rest of Scribus. When embedding external files, Scribus would convert them to native items. A bitmap preview might be generated. Under certain circumstances the content of the embedding frame can be edited both in Scribus (with possible lost of quality) and in the original external application. The first target for this new type of frames would be SVG, allowing the user to further edit SVG file in Inkscape after they have been embedded into Scribus (like one can do with bitmap images and Gimp). Another format that should be supported is PDF (as an alternative to the experimental embedding at export time) possible challenges are: - matching the external colors with the Scribus ones - possibly managing color profiles - integrating the fonts (most of all when they are subset in the source) - caching the result
