Summary0017686: color picker (eyedropper) does not work (always returns "black")
DescriptionThe color picker (eyedropper) does not seem to be working. After several attempts, I noticed that it always determines “black” as the value.

Regardless of where I click.

I have been experiencing this behavior since switching to CachyOS. I had no problems with an older version of Scribus on Linux Mint.

When an object is selected, it is filled with the background color “black.”
Steps To ReproduceCreate a rectangle.

Select the eyedropper.

Click on a colored area within Scribus (regardless of whether it is an imported .svg, .jpg, or an area created with Scribus).

The value returned is always “black.”

In color management, it is stored as “Registration.”

This behavior is related to the use of Wayland by your distro. Not sure how we can fix it given the current limitations of Wayland. If you can, try to use a X11 session instead of a Wayland session.

Thank you for your prompt reply. I will try it temporarily (until a permanent solution is found) with X11.

quick & dirty workaround:

Using the eyedropper-tool the linux distribution offers:

sudo pacman -S eyedropper

I found a way to workaround the issue on Wayland :) So I committed a fix which will be available in 1.6.5. However there will still be a limitation on Wayland : if user click outside Scribus application, we will still not be capable of determining the color at clicked point.

Is that workaround coming to 1.7.1.svn as well? Because it also returns, not black, but a brownish colour every time.
