Summary0017850: Using the alt "mnemonics" without information labels
DescriptionCurrently, the information labels in the palettes define mnemonics (like alt-u for the columns in the text content palette).

Sadly, the same power user that are more likely to learn and use those mnemonics are also tempted to hid the information labels.

I see two ways for allowing the shortcuts when the information labels are hidden:

- "manually" add the alt-shortcuts when a panel is "activated" (is being shown floating or in the active tab of a docked one) and removing them again when the panel loses "visibility".
- add the fields to the actions search (also only available when the fields in the panel can indeed be activated)

Personally, I tend to prefer the second solution (the actions search one)

Among other questions to be solved: can we get the necessary information at compile or boot time?

When stating « tempted to hid the information labels. » do you mean « tempted to close the unused (or rarely used) subpanes ? ». I understand so because the shortcuts are not active when their "label" is in a closed subpane in a displayed visible palette.

No, it's not about subpanes.
It's about the "information labels" you can turn on and off in the UI preferences.

I would say that the mnemonics should probably not be available, when the target sections are collapsed in the panel.
(but there should be also mnemonics for expanding and collapsing the sections, too!)

I don't get what you are saying. Are you saying they are working when they should not or they are not working when they should? They work when visible here.. and in any case, the buddy only works on a QLabel, not on another widget.
