I guess you propose this as a new option as... "Dont use the style-configured vertical-space-after paragraph when a paragraphe is followed with a same-style paragraph" |

While I see why this option can be useful / interesting. we should not forget that most layouts should have a baseline grid and the space before / after the paragraph should be used with parsimony. |

I meant this in the same way, @ale. I think not having space between the same para style would better respect the baseline grid. For example, there is a 4-10 line poem in the middle of a book, and there are many such poems. You might want to create a para style to get the first line of the poem has some space above and below, if you select the 10 lines of the poem and apply that lara style to those, all lines have a space above and below and things are mess. The 10 line poem spreads to the whole page with each line having a space above and below. The option I am proposing would help a lot here, as it does in LO. |

Correction: "the first line have space above and the last line have space below---normal baseline respected from line 1 to the last." |

I imagine such a setting could be extended to not only use 0 but some user-choosen vertical space, depending on the paragraph style. Disclaimer : I've never used this option in LibreOffice. |

if you have the baseline grid activated, you will only want space before or after that is a multiple of the baseline height. which is often not so interesting (and the reason why many book have a left indent, instead of a margin above) personally, the most common usage I would have for a similar feature, is for adding a one (or multiple) line space below a heading, but only if it's not followed by another heading (of any level) and similar conditional formatting. but that would not be covered by your request. it needs more complex rules (something like: add a space below, if the next paragraph does not have a space above...) |

Just to be clear: I don't say that this option is useless. Rather that it's way more useful in LibreOffice than in Scribus. And that in Scribus, unexperienced users have a higher risk to use it wrongly and achieve a worse layout. |

@ale, I don't think the baseline grid would make it any harder to use the option. It is just a matter of using the multiple of baseline height. Also, one can now just add a new line before the first line and after the last line for a simple and easy workaround. But it would be better and easy for multiple poems to setup a style like this. Moreover, it can be put in the Advance section as per your concern of it making things messy for a new user. |

I stumbled on a screenshot from Affinity Publisher: their set of three options makes sense... It's a bit too prominent for my taste (and the first one could be an icon like the top and bottom margin to make it "less visible"), but it seems to cover most needs in a "clearly defined" way. |

We are not copying things from others : - ) But you can go to ChatGPT (or any truthiness provider of your choice) and ask it to "draw me the options for the paragraph spacing in affinity publisher" Just tested and it works. And AI is not stealing... Isn't it? (of course, I don't have the link to the screenshot anymore) Once you have done that, you're welcome to refine your request with new information : - ) |

I asked and it drew me some. It js nice I must say. The "sum" option is nice. It is something new to me to be honest but it is nice. As I understood, "do not add space between same style" and "sum" are slightly different options. I leave it you (devs) how you want to approach such an option in Scribus. |
