| Summary | 0017873: Tables: Colour type icon shows "none" when selecting a colour | ||||
| Description | As far as I tested, it only does so if you select "Default Cell Style" instead of "[Default Cell Style]" for any condition other than "Whole Table" (i.e. Banded Rows/Cols, First/Last Cols etc.) | ||||
| Steps To Reproduce | Select "Default Cell Style" to replace "[Default Cell Style]" for any condition. | ||||

Can we stop to apply no style to things? Everything should get the default style. No exception. This would simplify everybody's life! /rant off. |

Ironically, it is pretty much the default. Lol. I just changed the colour for there is a feature (banded rows). And selecting "Default" Cell Style causes it. |

Come on, @ale. You understand these things better. As long as there are features someone will use them; that's what they are for, no? |

As you see, there is both "[Default Table Style]" and "Default Table Style" in the table styles drop down. The former means that no style is applied (and in the past it said "No style", if I recall it correctly). Instead, of making it impossible to have no style applied, it was chosen to have those brackets around the default style name. Because somebody thought, I was fighting the windmills of the "No style" label. Really, wherever there is a default value, it should not be possible to have no value! That would avoid so many bugs and make the code simpler. It's not about renaming it: it's about having sound defaults! And now, I'll stop ranting about it, since it only tangentially has to do with the ticket you wrote. |

I did not know the reason behind "[]". I recenlty asked in the matrix chat once but no one replied. Anyway, I do not understand that code side much. However, this is weird for me as a user that something saying "default" gives you the issue. As a side note: I think for all default things, all should be "default" and not "[default]". Still, if one wants to have no style to any part (char, para etc), they should be able to choose "[default]" manually. |

It's not possible to really have no style: Scribus needs a style to show your text (which color would have a text with no style? which size? ...). So we currently have two different default styles. One that is called Default Style and is defined in the Style Manager and one which is showed as "[Default Style]" and is partially defined by the values in the text frame document settings and otherwise probably takes default values from the Scribus source code. It would be so much simpler to just have a "Default Style" as the origin of all truth. And, now, I really stop. |

> It would be so much simpler to just have a "Default Style" as the origin of all truth. Yes! I totally agree with you, @ale. Why have a "no style" at all that is more complicated to understand for a user, and demands an extra bit of energy from the devs? However, we should stop, only because this is going out of the scope of this ticket. Somewhere else, I would like if this discussion continued. :) |

I cannot see what you are trying to say here. works for me. (and please stop the talk about the default/no style.. that's not useful) |

I tried on Linux Mint 22.2. Compiled Scribus from src (starting from scratch), and I can reproduce it there. |
