Summary0003097: problems with selecting/cutting/copying/pasting text between frames
Description1. it is impossible to select text in more than one frame with mouse.
you may do it with keyboard but:
2. you may cut/copy text with menu command only
3. text does not flow or flows wrong
4. text that you paste is in random cases different than cut/copied (!!!)
5. same as 3.
Steps To Reproduceplace text in few chained text frames and play with it :)
Additional Informationproblems found when chained text frames were placed on separate pages (not tested in other cases). i have also tested (few minutes - no time for more tests) scribus for win 1.3.2 and found the same problem as described in 1. in few days i will test other described problems.

and more to this issue:
6. changes in text done with cut/copy and paste cannot be undone (ctrl+z or 'undo' menu command). scribus makes something (or not) but text is not restored (in some cases is completly destroyed)

hi jm_sz, please try to split such reports into more issues in the future, it's easier to handle this way.

1. confirmed, i'm not sure, if it's really desireable. Have you tried to copy it while in Story Editor?

2. confirmed here in 1.3.3cvs: ctrl+c and ctrl+v of selected text in chained frames behaves rather weird, see the attached screen shot.

3. not sure, what you mean, can you provide some more details?

4. Confirmed here in 1.3.3cvs: I've tried it with some selected text in chained text frames, ctrl+c behaves unpredictably.

5. same as 3.

6. In my case (1.3.3cvs) Scribus crashed after Ctrl+X and Ctrl+Z of some selected text :(

hi jm_sz,

> 1. + 2.

selecting through text frames is not supported yet. there is work going on to support it, but it's not as easy as it looks like (some important changes are needed in the way text frames are implemented)

depending on what you want to do, as you have been told many years ago, the solution is to use the story editor.

> 3. text does not flow or flows wrong

-> please open a bug report with example of wrong flows. please upload the .sla, the font used and the pdf or screenshot showing the result you see.

4. text that you paste is in random cases different than cut/copied (!!!)

-> if you can reproduce, please post an example (steps to reproduce +.sla + screenshot or pdf)

5. same as 3.

-> ?

6. changes in text done with cut/copy and paste cannot be undone (ctrl+z or 'undo' menu command). scribus makes something (or not) but text is not restored (in some cases is completly destroyed)

in scribus 1.3.2 undo for text was not supported.

in 1.4.1 it should mostly work and in 1.5svn it has to work correctly!

if you have nothing against it, i would like to close this report since there is not specific issue that is not duplicated in other tickets or than can be replicated.

we know that those topics are very important... and you're very welcome to open new tickets for specific issues! (most of all if you can tell us the steps to reproduce them!)

have a nice day

"selecting through text frames is not supported yet. there is work going on to support it, but it's not as easy as it looks like (some important changes are needed in the way text frames are implemented)"
of course, i understand it, and i don't expect miracles ;)

"depending on what you want to do, as you have been told many years ago, the solution is to use the story editor."
generally, i want to work in wysiwyg mode ;)
and of course, i know, there is story editor ;)

-----

i described (in 5 steps/points; with step/point 6 in addition) problem with copying/pasting...
so you may say there are problems and/or steps to reproduce problems (see: steps to reproduce; i wrote exactly what to do :)
i belive, that there were no undo support in 1.3.2, but when i tried to undo operation on text - _sometimes_ something strange was done (on different objects or on text as i described in 6)
and some more description:
3. means that text flows wrong or does not flow through chained frames after cut
5. means that text flows wrong or does not flow through chained frames after paste

problems were confirmed by maciej hanski (see: note 9301 above)

generally: you may say there is one big problem, containing few sub-problems.
so new tickets are not neccessary. and there is no reason to close this issue, in my opinion

hi marcin,

you described 5/6 problems which are related...

what we need is describing in 5/6 steps how to replicate each of your problems.

however, if you're just concerned by being able to select across frame, cezary is also suffering under this misbehavior and i hope that he will find a solution for this... he now knows well how the text frames work :-)

Give me few days.
I hope, I could explain some problems, and maybe - describe ones better...
