||nice feature. Setting priority to low, since there is an easy workaround: temporary pasting the styled text into a text editor and copying the text from there.|
I would like to add my vote here, and would even extend that request a bit:
It would be great to have three options for importing text:
1) not formatting at all (just like copy-pasting through a text editor, as mhanski says above)
2) full formatting: that's the current setting in Scribus.
3) minimal formatting: this would retain only a reduced set of style information: Bold, Italic, Underlined, maybe hyperlinks... For everything else (font, size, color...), it would apply the current style settings (based on the insertion point).
I believe that option (3) would be extremely practical in many situations. Very often when copying text out of ODT files, html pages etc, you want to get rid of all the style garbage that comes with it (manually applied fonts, colors, sizes...). But in most cases you want to keep italic and bold, since that's part of the semantics of the text, rather than the visual style. Same goes for hyperlinks.
If you use the text editor workaround, your text will lose those semantic bits, and you will need to manually re-apply them.
On the other hand, if you import the text with full styling, you will need to undo all the visual styles that are not needed (font, size...) and while doing that, there's a great risk of overriding the bold and italic parts as well.
See also 0011574 : When copying some text, scribus also pastes the origin paragraph style that overwrites the pasted-place paragraph style and messes the layout of the whole paragraph, including font choice. That should not be.
Copying and Pasting should be local and have only an effect on the copy and pasted text parts.
When pasting characters, scribus should by default paste the character styles of these characters, but not the paragraph style, since pasting the paragraph style has a wider action than the pasted text part, and pasting should be a local action.

I think the problem as request has been solve in svn 1.5.1
no formatting copied with the text
||Dawoodalbadi, I think you misundersand. This ticket is a feature request. This is not solved at all in 1.5.1 because of open bug relationships: http://bugs.scribus.net/view.php?id=3345#relationships_open|
||Hi, I just started using Scribus and this is literally the very first thing I tried to do. I'm using 1.5.3 on OSX, pasting any text into a frame or story editor overwrites the existing text formatting, even if I pasted the text into a text editor then copied it out first. Furthermore undoing the action restored the original text, but also left my pasted badly formatted text in the document. Separate bug, but still annoying. Right now I have no idea how to get my text in without having to do text formatting pushups (check the existing format, paste the text, re-apply the format...).|
