cmyk cannot work in preview, because it is generated by ghostscript afaik. and the best colour depth in gs is 24 bit = rgb :( so that's the problem. see 0003275 for other idea of preview mode (similiar to indesign's one)

The tiffsep device supposed 32bit composite CMYK which is used if its available, otherwise the bitcmyk device is used, which is also 32 bit.

Sorry, that's plain wrong. PS and GS support all colorspaces: DeviceGray, DeviceRGB,
DeviceCMYK, and also CIE based ones.

PS usually does not not support transparency (alpha channel) but GS has extensions
for that since it also has to handle PDF 1.4+. I'm not sure if Scribus can use those
extensions for CMYK processing, though.

my mistake. not ghostscript but GHOSTVIEW has max. 24bit colour depth in options :(

Reminder sent to: christoph_s, louisdesjardins, PLucAuclair

could you confirm, if CMYK in Print Preview works fine for you?

I only checked with solid colours, but it works here with 1-3-3cvs and gs 8.5.3.

Apart that it's not managed it's okay.

"Apart that it's not managed..."

Is it not this what this is all about? jm_sz has complained, that "the preview differs from what is shown on the canvas and in the color palette", which means -- if I get him right -- with color management enabled, colors doesn't look the same in these places.
I'm sorry, if this sounds silly -- I hardly ever use it, and the bug was submitted on behalf of somebody else. I would like to know, whether it's ripe for closing or not.

Yes I know, it was a failed joking way of telling it doesn't really work right. ;)

sorry, I was "out of comp" for more than week.
as others said (and as I described) - it does not work right (1.3.3.1 for win, gs 8.53, win2k and xp)
and your description (0010329, 06-Apr-22 22:17) is absolutely perfect :)

I'm not sure, but how about just destroying this dialog and make the preview on-page, with a custom window?

Ok here's the idea:

Instead of opening a new window, allow color separation on-page. Print preview would open a palette (see attached pic: print_preview.png).

Then you'd select what plate you want to be displayed, and the regular stuff. You'd have an enable/disable toggle button so you would not have to open/close it all the time (why not).

ok, but it is just UI improvement (similiar topic is disscused, but i don't remember ID). however it is quite interesting idea.
here the problem is: Print preview cannot correctly display CMYK, the preview differs from what is shown on the canvas and in the color palette. (see desctription ;)
so it does not matter where the preview is shown, but how it is generated (now with ghostscript, so we have a problem).

No what I mean is, use Scribus internals to do the work, and that on-page, not Ghostscript. Can it be done?

maybe there is an idea. i have found it using photoshop, to check if ps file contains what i want.
i have printed a file to ps (cmyk separations).
then i have put each separation to separated layer in photoshop and coloured it to its colour (c separation to cyan, m to magenta etc.)
every layer blending have been set to 'Multiply' except lower one (black) of course.
then i've got full colour, cmyk image of ps file content...
so ghostscript still can be used, but some conversions are neccesary.
i'm not a programer, so it's just an idea
