Summary | 0004122: Inconstant handling of guides and right clicking when using magnifying glass selects guides
Description | If you zoom in and out using the magnifing glass - left click zooms in, right click zooms out - unless you are over a guide. Here left click zooms in but right click brings up the guide manager. The pointer changes back to an arrow. If you close the guide manager the pointer stays as an arrow, even though the magnifing glass is active and left/right click zooms. [DONE] Right clicking with the arrow tool over guide brings up the guide manager - unless there is an object over the guide. Now right click brings up the menu for the object and the object is selected. Deselecting the object and positioning the pointer over the guide changes the pointer shape, but you cannot select the guide as left clicking selects the object. You can only click and drag guides if you do so where no object is displayed. The pointer does not change shape at all when an object is selected. This is confusing. Please change so that. Objects are not selected when the magnifying glass tool is active. So right clicking will always zoom out. Right clicking on a guide always brings up the guide manager whether an object is over the guide or not. Left clicking on a guide always selects the guide whether an object is over it or not. The mouse pointer always changes shape when over a guide, even if an object is selected. Alos I feel that moving the guide should not loose focus on any selected objects.
Steps To Reproduce | New document. Draw some guides. Draw a text box over one of the guides. Position the pointer over the guide. Select the magnifing glass. Left click -zoom in , right click - guide manager. Select the arrow tool. Position the arrow over the guide - pointer changes shape and guide can be moved. Position pointer over guide where shape is. Poiter changes shape but left click selects shape and not guide. deselect object. Now right click. Object selected and object menu displayed. Position pointer over a guide which does not have an object over it. right click - guide manager displayed.

Hmm, had a bit more of a think on this. If you make it so that left clicking always selects a guide whether or not there are shapes on it then this will make it difficult to select a small shape, such as a bullet symbol, that's sitting on a guide without first moving the guide. A solution might be to place guides in an object 'stack' so that you can select either the guide or object(s). At present Scribus only selects the top object on left click. Perhaps a way could be made of cycling through a stack of objects on the same layer, maybe alt + left click? Alternatively how about placing all guides on a special 'guides layer' which when selected only allows the guides to be moved? |

As an addition to my last note, Have now found that ctrl + shift cycles through stacks of objects. Sorry did not know this at time of last note. Perhaps if guides were added to this stack? So now the suggestion is. Have the magnifying glass just act as a magnifying glass so that it no-longer picks up guides on a right click. Always change the mouse pointer shape if its over a guide. Add guides to the object stack on the layer, I guess they should propergate across all layers so that you can select them whatever layer you are on? This would mean that selected objects loose focus if you click on a guide, but at least you would know that you had as you would have to hold ctrl and shift to get at it. Any thoughts? John. |

Hello, Would it be posible to see info on bug 3964 please? This issue hase been made a child of it and 3964 does not appear on the issues list, presumably as it is private? Many thanks John. |

Magnifier Glass issue is fixed in CVS. It behaves like Magnifier Glass all time (no guides action then). |
|
These issues seem fine in 1.3.4cvs now |
