Summary0008276: request for Text frame creation
DescriptionWhen guides are set, any new frame added with Shift pressed will add a frame within the guides space. Another option could allow to add a frame within the margin space but automagically adding columns to the frames coresponding to the guides.
There could be some kind of default column value that could be set in document properties or creation, to help this. (as done in Xpress or ID if i remember well)

I remember a similar request with an included patch. Just can't find it now.

wouldn't it be more useful and predictable if columns could be defined as a style for the text frames?

Style for most any action is something to consider seriously.

All of those little moves are about efficiency and ease of use. Once you have set up your margins and number of columns and gap for your layout, then you can decide if you want auto text frame or not. If yes, Scribus does it for you. If not, you want to be able to rapidly create your text frames within those columns. If Scribus would recognise that such a frame needs columns, then all the best and no need to set the columns in the Properties Palette. This could be as quick as a Style. And even more intuitive. But I am not saying that Styles wouldn’t do it!

For styles, I am all for it!

Of course i'm for style but this is another thing. I think we'd need both, this capacity with and without styles. In the last case, i would agree for FRAME STYLE that i need every day :) especially here because even if columns have been placed in text properties, columns are still a frame property.
