Hey eilygre, can you reproduce on any other OS ? DId you set a script to be loaded on Startup ? |
Pinging OP |
1. I have not had time to try yet. I just installed win8 instead of Vista and in Vista everything seems to be OK. 2. No. |
Scripting works in Win8. By seeking for cScriptIO I find cScriptIO.h There are no cScriptIO.py or *.pyc or *.pyo I don't set any script to be loaded on Startup, just starts Scribus. My intention was to use CalendarWizard. If I try to I get the message: Error retrieving error message content after script exeption! Exception was: KeyError: '_errorMSG' |
added to 1.4.6 so it doesn't get lost. Not sure devs want to fix due to the release of 1.5. |
From reported error: Traceback (most recent call last): File "<string>", line 6, in <module> ImportError: No module named cStringIO I deduce that cStringIO module is not present in used python. As this module has been removed in python3 (see file:///usr/share/doc/python3.4-doc/html/whatsnew/3.0.html) and error is confirmed only for one OS I strongly suspect that scribus executable is linked to python3 instead of python2. On unix this can be verified with command: ldd /usr/bin/scribus | grep python I do not know how to check what libraries are linked to executable on ecS. |
eilygre, can you test the patch on ecS and also possibly address Juraj above ? Thanks! |
OP, please respond |
I have tried to find out what you sent me and got help from my son who is a Linux expert. I could not find the link file:///usr/share.... that jurajF mentions in his respond. That is because that is a file in HIS computer, not mine. And I do not have Pyton3.4, only Python2.7. The patch 0001-Python-error-cleared-too-early.patch from issue 0013376 is to be used by someone that compiles Scribus. I don't and I can't. Paul Smedley is the person that handles most of the unix ports to eCS. Glad the issue is solved and and I am eager to get it working here as well. |
http://smedley.id.au/tmp/scribus-1.4.5-os2-20151007.zip contains the patch linked to above and for me at least, doesn't give any python errors. |
Thanks psmedley!! Elygre, please test and give feedback ASAP since the 1.4.6 release is upon us. |
Sorry, no change. Same message for the last psmedley version (1.4.5) as for (1.4.4). There is a pop-up window saying Script error (Skriptfeil) and an "OK" button, but the window is so small that it is impossible to see any explanation if there is any. Running Scribus from a Command prompt while directing the output to a text file gives the same error messages as in the description above. Running python.exe gives this output. Does it say anything? >>> help() Traceback (most recent call last): File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module> File "f:\Program_Files\python\python27\Lib/site.py", line 454, in __call__ import pydoc File "f:/Program_Files/python/python27/Lib/pydoc.py", line 55, in <module> import sys, imp, os, re, types, inspect, __builtin__, pkgutil, warnings File "f:/Program_Files/python/python27/Lib/inspect.py", line 41, in <module> from operator import attrgetter ImportError: No module named operator >>> |
> Running python.exe gives this output. Does it say anything? With note in description that issue started after installing python2.7 and the fact that sole python (without scribus) does not run properly I would guess that your python is not installed properly. Try uninstall it (an any older version of python if there where any) and reinstall python. Only if your python is running properly from command line than we can sort any issue with scribus (if there is any). But since psmedley report it working OK I would strongly recommend to check your python installation. |
Thank you. After uninstalling and reinstalling Python the error messages are gone. Sorry for the trouble I made. |
eilygre, no probs. Appreciate the participation. Thanks Juraj and Psmedly as well for stepping up. *high five* |
