Summary0013115: Import PDF with "Crop to finished page" leaves cropmarks in document
DescriptionI have a PDF document with cropmarks that has been created with Xpress.
Size of document is A5+bleeds and cropmarks.

When i open one of its page with scribus, i use "crop to finished page" option (3d option) to get the visible part of the pages only.

It looks like the option did not work : cropmarks and images part of bleed area are still there.

When exporting to PDF, the preflight checker warns : there are lots of items that are not on a page.

I ignore the warning and export to PDF.

The produced PDF looks fine.

When i print it with local printer on A4 paper with "real size and center" option, the cropmarks appear back on paper, outside the A5 page !

When i print it with "adjust to size", then the A5 page fills the whole A4, and the cropmarks cant be seen. OK.

2 issues there :
- cropmarks and bleeds image are imported even in "only finished page" mode
- areas outside of page are exported in the scribus produced PDF, are not visible but are printed when its printed
Additional InformationI upload 2 documents :
- original pdf
- imported SLA cant be uploaded because its too big
- exported pdf ("converti") with low quality

Also in sample uploaded file can be noted that one text box is badly imported as big color squares instead of correct text.

I observe a similar error with scribus 1.5.3.
For a job, I need to impose my document. I'm exporting each page of the document with crop marks. But when I create the imposition document with 2 pages side by side and position pdf import in each image frame with different offset, I can't have the result attempt.
I observed that the error results from the import and export pdf file.
1. A pdf file with a crop zone is considered like without crop zone.
2. The pdf export make 2 files differents when:
- option incorporate pdf is not checked: the image block looks like the preview render of image frame in scribus
- option incorporate pdf is checked: the crop marks are visible in this pdf export, because a translation is applied to the offset image corresponding to the crop zone.

Crop marks etc in PDF are not any different from standard page content, so we cannot remove them when importing pages. What we can do is clipping imported content using standard graphics instructions available in any graphics library, PostScript or PDF.

>> areas outside of page are exported in the scribus produced PDF, are not visible but are printed when its printed

Scribus contains the necessary clipping instructions to avoid that. If the PDF interpreter used when printing does not respect those instructions, there is nothing we can do.

>> When i print it with local printer on A4 paper with "real size and center" option, the cropmarks appear back on paper, outside the A5 page !

This does not happen when printing using Acrobat Pro/Reader X or DC.

>> A pdf file with a crop zone is considered like without crop zone.

In PDF the crop area is just a viewer thing. The crop area is not directly related to a page format. PDF boxes directly related to a page format are:
- the TrimBox: final format after cutting
- the BleedBox: format before cutting
- the MediaBox: full printing format included print marks etc...
