| Summary | 0000417: hyphenate word by minimum *letters* options | ||||||||||||
| Description | i can hyphenate words by minimum size of words. that's okay. but i want to hyphenate a word, by minimum initial letters, or trailing letters. therefore, if i say minimum 3 letters, 'au-stralia' wouldn't work. for ending letters, minimum 3 is also good, for gerunds. but would cut out minimum twos. | ||||||||||||
| Additional Information | english UK and english US have slightly different rules of hyphenation. one of them is based on vowels, the other on consonants. we need to plug-in dictionaries for both. i know because i had this problem with a french client long ago, circa 1991-93. | ||||||||||||

Hmmmm, do any rules of hyphenation really allow things like 'au-stralia'? Any URL to share? |

Copying the text of my closed bug report here for quick access. 0005344: allow additional settings for hyphenation Please allow to specify how many characters must remain before and after the hyphen. ATM scribus separates many words in such a way, that only 2 characters remain before and/or after the hyphen. This really does not look too nice. One can already specify the minimum length of a word to be separated, but these settings are missing (AFAICT OOorg uses the AltLinux hyphenater too, and there you can specify this). Scribus is great! Thanks for considering this. Examples in German: le-bendig Os-tern Be-fehl |

Long time feature request. Submitted nearly 6 years ago on 04-Apr-04 18:59 Is there something that refrain us to implement this except time and availability of programmers? It’s a *must have* feature. |
